Vegetarian & Vegan - June 2007

My 17 mo old grandson despises meat. He will occasionally eat a bit of chicken breast or fish, but literally gags at the taste of beef, venison, -- red meat.
He is half East Indian.
Is it possible he is a natural born vegetarian?
His mom (my daughter) is a veggie lover but likes meat as well. I am not much of a meat eater, nor was my maternal grandmother; my maternal great-grandmother was vegetarian by nature.
I've never seen a toddler absolutely shudder at the taste of meat and I'm curious about it. I havent been able to find much online about this trait. Any ideas?

Look, if you're so concerned about people killing animals, stop looking at us omnivores who enjoy some meat on their plate. How about turning your attention to the farming industries that YOU rely on that destroy acres of habitats for organisms eh?

My 14 yr old (daughter) wants to be a vegetarian, which I support..only she won't eat veggies. (She's a carbotarian, eating only pastas, beans, rice and grains.) Unfortunately not in very healthy quantities. We have tried several vegetarian cook books but too many real unusual combinations.
Does anyone know of a kids cook book which would have more appealing recepies?
Thanks

Okay. This one's for the vegetarians: If humans aren't supposed to eat meat, then what's the point of chickens? What purpose could a chicken possibly serve, apart from being eaten?

I have read more than once that she was a staunch vegan for ethical reasons but find it odd if it is true because she promoted meals in her range that included egg and milk

Veganconscript posted a link to the movie Earthlings a few moments ago. The movie is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. People responded within minutes saying it was propoganda. I am going to guess these people didnt even bother to watch it, and only assumed it was all made up. Video doesn't lie. It includes your pet friends as well. I think its very educational for anyone, whether you are vegan or not. So please help me to understand why its so difficult to face the reality of the world we live in and why everyone chooses to ignore it? it effects all of us.

I'm a new vegan, and looking for a recipe for something to use as a replacement for ground beef. Tofu? Seitan? What do you recommend?

My husband and I are in the process of switching from omnivore to vegan. We cook plenty of beans, fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc. If this a "safe" diet for my 1, 3 and 5 year old kids? Any suggestions on doing this with them?

Hi,
I am a vegan and I ate mostly fruit and odwalla juices before the candida diagnosis. I don't know what to do now. Please Help! I would love a structured meal plan, I am starting to get really hungry, is there anybody who can help, because I'd love to eat some breakfast tomorrow. I am normally quite healthy and need a nutritious plan because I don't want to stunt my growth. Thanks so much.

I quit eating red meat (reasons aren't really important) and I'm having trouble finding info that specifically states what vitamins are being missed by not eating it. Does anyone know? I could just ask my doc if I need to take anything at my next appt I was just wanting some ideas.

I get why people are vegitarians, because eating dead animals is mean or whatever...but why would you not eat milk and eggs? No animals are harmed during milking and..egg taking? Or whatever you wanna call it. So why?

It's a good idea to eat less meats. However, why do vegans/vegetarians look like they have Yellow Jaundice???

I have seen them in some dishes and desserts, and they just look so darn pretty.

If you have tried them:
Are they expensive?
Can you find them in stores (if so, where)?
And do they actually taste good, or are they simply edible?

Thanks
:)

I read in my cookbook not to eat raw eggplant... I just didn't know if it was because it was dangerous or if it didn't taste good that way.

Is this how Neanderthal Man felt when humans began to evolve?

I read so many questions about why we are hypocrites and we are "lying" to ourselves and so on - get a grip.

If you want to hunt and kill your own food - go for it. Natural selection works for both the hunted and the hunter.

Many vegetarians will tell you that at least one of their reasons for being vegetarian is due to their concern for helpless animals. So instead they eat plants which are even more helpless. Why are they such insensitive brutes to these harmless organisms?

Alright, I am a frustrated raw foodist. Right now I am about 75%, but I have been wondering about the B Vitamin issue..

In my research it has come up that David Wolfe mentions in an interview that he eats ants for B Vitamins, but this interview seems to have happened in between the last edition of The Sunfood Diet Success System, and the new edition.. I have now read both versions.. Neither say ANYTHING about it that I have noticed..
I'd ask on the raw food forum, but it has come up before, and turns into a huge argument between the raw dairy people and the vegans.. To me, raw dairy is not an option.. I'm vegan, and have been for a long time. Right now I'm just taking the supplements.. Try to be respectful of other beliefs in your answer, but I'm trying to figure out if the supplements are necessary.. or is there a better source.
