Vegetarian & Vegan - March 2007

I'm curious about something. There was a question in here about Muslims refusing to handle packaged pork products while cashing people out at a super Target store. They asked the customers to hold the meat while they scanned it. How do vegetarians feel about this type of thing? Do you not handle packaged meat or dairy products or does this not bother you , you just don't consume the products? I know there are different levels of vegetarianism also.

I am not a vegetarian but have gone to and support the Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York. They ask that you not bring in any dairy or meat products if you are staying at their cabins out of respect for the animals. I find nothing wrong with that.

I myself, would just hold the meat for the cashier and let them scan it. No biggie. Some of the answers to the Muslim question were outrageous and just plain ignorant. I can imagine what type of nonsense vegetarians have to deal with.

If they don't consume honey because they steal it from bees then they must also not steal/exploit/abuse humans as well rite?

I don't like honey and don't eat it, but why is it not suitable for vegans to eat? Bees aren't killed while collecting it are they? Surely it's just a natural by-product?
Am I very ignorant? Don't answer that offensively!

I like meat, but I'd almost ALWAYS being willing to trade in a New York Strip for a killer salad or a spiced up tofu dish.

Will going vegetarian help with weight loss if I almost always eat lean meat anyway?

Has anyone gone vegetarian and lost weight whether that was reason for cutting out meat or not?

Since vegetarians are one of the only groups of people who actually take diet and nutrition seriously in the US I would like to ask what you think about traditional diets... as in the diets commoners consumed a couple thousand years ago by hardy peoples (Gaelics, Swiss mountain villages, Aborigones, Eskimos, etc...). These people consumed food as a means to an end and not as a means within itself. All of there food being produced the way nature intended (as in pastured cows or carefully planted veggies and fruits done by tilled and planted by hand), also in a humanely and fair way to the animals (not fenced in all the time and giving plenty of room).
I personally feel it is wrong to demonize the products of Animals (as in saying they are unhealthy for you), when the Animals themselves are fed unnatural things and are unoften unhealthy themselves (Commercial cows live an average of 4 years whereas pastured is 15). All dairy/meat companies have one bottom line... $.Justwouldliketoknow.

I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian. but i heard you have to take supplements. is this true?

I'll still be eating dairy like milk and eggs.so would that be sufficient enough to keep enough protein in my body?

I am always amused when I see the answers non veggies give in the vegetarian section. Things like, well vegetarians eat some meat, or vegans eat fish. Why do they answer a question they no NOTHING about? I know diddly doo about cars, and I am not over in the mechanics section answering questions. Just wondering why people bother to answer questions, when all it does is make them look ignorant and uninformed. I don't answer what I don't know

They used every part and only killed what was needed.....

They didn't mass produce animals in unbearable conditions and make them suffer pain like some vegans said in my other vegan question.
