they are, unfortunetly most places do not offer any/many vegetarian food and what they do offer tends to be fattening so usually I can only order a basic salad(which is good anyway, but I would prefer more options). School menus aren't very healthy; even when I ate meat, the meals were either fried or pasta based with cake and fries as a side. I find it hypocritical the schools talk about nutrition and promote athletics, but do not provide healthy and/or a varity of meals.

I think it would vary from state to state and school system to school system. Most states don't have any regulations in place that require a healthy alternative to the fat and salt-laden entrees on the average school menu. Our children do good if they get offered a fatty cheese pizza or wilted tomato and lettuce salad as a "healthy" choice.

I suggest that you get together with other students who are interested in a healthier diet and try talking to the school administration. If they aren't interested in what you have to say, then you and your parents should attend a school board meeting and make your views known.

In the meantime, the best thing that your friend can do is to pack his own vegetarian lunch. It's not always easy to find vegetarian options that don't need refrigeration, but it is possible.

It's not required as in it's a law. Most places will accommodate vegetarians because it's relatively inexpensive to throw together a salad bar or provide veggie wraps, but if they are tight on space, they might not have the ability to provide anything extra. Obviously, your friend's school doesn't think it would be a worthwhile option. Suggest to your friend that he/she get a petition together asking the school to provide vegetarian alternatives. Maybe if the school sees how many people (and how much $$ they could make) would be interested in purchasing vegetarian items, they'll provide them.

Schools have atrocious food options. Even if they have veggie options it is usually something like lettuce and tomato salad (who could live on that) or French Fries or Pasta. Students should bring their lunches if they want something nutritious - whether they are vegetarian or not.

it may merely be your college. My college continually has a salad bar the place you additionally could make your very own salad so it would not could desire to have meat on it, and while they serve burgers they supply veggie burgers besides, and different stuff like that. maybe you may desire to talk over with human beings on your college and locate out if all people else is vegetarian. then you certainly adult men can bypass mutually and talk over with the thought or some thing approximately serving salads devoid of meat on them or offering food options that have not have been given meat. Say that it would not in basic terms could desire to be for vegetarians the two because of the fact of direction meat eaters could additionally consume food that would not have meat. in case you come across out which you are the only vegetarian, i think of you may desire to nonetheless bypass talk over with the thought, and in case you would be able to desire to, do exactly a touch white lie and say "me and my different vegetarian acquaintances...". it may well be incredibly rude of the school to tutor your request for meals devoid of meat down. maximum in all probability, motives why they have not got vegetarian concepts is because of the fact no person has ever further it up, so it rather is as much as you. until then, save a container of potential bars on your locker or some thing for those days while each thing is composed of meat, or talk over with the individuals interior the cafeteria ahead of time to confirm what the lunch is for day after on the instant. actual, that could artwork greater effective, in case you bypass to the individuals interior the cafeteria and ask in the event that they are going to be serving something that would not have meat. they had be susceptible to invite "why", after which you will desire to describe which you're a vegetarian merely attempting to have lunch. good success! and carry on with it. i'm useful that all and sundry vegetarians have had those days the place they have skipped a meal or 2 because of the fact each and all the food contained meat. additionally, getting the school to serve some veg-friendly meals could inspire another human beings to bypass veg too, quite in the event that they have had to yet have not because of the fact they think of they gained't have the skill to consume something at lunch. Pave the way for destiny vegetarians at your college!

it's not required, however I think they should have some Vegan options. Anyone can eat something that is Vegan, Vegetarians, and meat eaters alike can eat Vegan food. It's cost effective (once you determine demand for the item) and includes everybody.

They don't typically cater to vegetarian options any more than they cater to Kosher options, Asian options, Lactose-free options, Muslim options, etc.

If the student can't eat what's provided at the school, then it's his or his parent's responsibility to pack food that he can eat.

Your friend is right. I called the school nutritionist to see if there was, and she thought I was nuts. She told me kids get the nutrition of vegetables from the sauce on pizza, and ketchup. How absurd. I told her my daughter was vegetarian, and wondered if there were options. The clueless woman told me that sometimes salad is served with the meal. Schools are clueless about nutrition

Most schools do. They offer salads, veggies and PBJ sandwiches. I think it's just better to bring your own though!
