Let me begin by saying you have made a GOOD decision and you CAN do this!!!!!

ok, so here's what you do...
Start by eliminating red meat, then pork, then poultry, then fish, then eggs, then dairy...a week each is what worked for me(& believe me, I was a carnivore before I took this step, so it's possible for most anyone), so while technically all the junk they don't want you to know is in the meat & dairy will take a little longer to completely work its way out of your system, your body will start to thank you a LOT from the beginning and within the six weeks it will take to eliminate most obvious animal products, your everything will be breathing a HUGE sigh of relief.
In the meantime, try to replace the thing you are eliminating from your diet with things you know are good(like fruit sorbet instead of ice cream or tomato soup instead of clam chowder ).
After that, you can begin to look into things that have animal products but aren't so obvious about it...like Jell-O or some brands of bread, for example, to try to make substitutions for those.
The bottom line is there's nothing wrong or weird or even confusing about not eating animal products, and there's no reason to buy weird or expensive "funky b.s", as my mother loves to call it, unless you really want to.

As for the produce issue, let me assure you that finding good things to eat without sending your moms bankbook to a screaming grave is EASY and VERY affordable. Take a look at how much space you have to plant on your own, then pick a handful of things you like to eat that would fit...for instance, if you like tomatoes & live in an apartment you could do a windowsill container of them...if you live in the suburbs and like apples you could plant an apple tree out back...or if you live in a big wide open space...anythings possible.
For what produce does need to be actually bought, look into farmers markets and in season produce. These won't have any or even a fraction of the amount of pesticides/herbicides as the other options.
If, by some small chance, neither option is available, then you could try organic as a last resort, but this in most cases will not be a financial issue because there are so many other ways to get the same quality.
Another thing you could try that has work somewhat for me and very well for others is to go to the public library and check out a cookbook. Go through and see which recipes you think you'd like and ones that look like you might want to try and after the animal products are taken out of it if it still works then write it down in a notebook as your own "personalized cookbook.
You came to the right place by asking where I would find the question because I have a TON of resources and information on this, and if you're interested in learning more you can ask about what I'll be teaching this summer, which will be on a LOT to do with this.(btw I'm not a classroom teacher or anything, just a 4th year college student who knows a LOT about nutrition). Please, if you would like to know anything more or even would just like to find other people in the same boat feel free to email me with anything!!!! I'd be MORE than happy to help!
I hope this helped. Thanks for listening to my looooong answer, lol. Oh yea, & remember...Smile! No matter what, it's worth it.

it costs less to be a vegetarian than it does to eat meat. Organic produce is better, and more expensive, but beans and rice are very inexpensive. Its simple, just don't eat meat, enjoy all of the other things you like, and find a source of protein to substitute for meat. Nothing more to it. Growing your own veggies is easy-try hydroponic or inverted gadening (grow plats upside down in two litter bottles or milk jugs-super cool)

My mom is vegetarian and i dont think it is expensive at all...i would suggest getting a cookbook or information on vegetarian meals and the vitamins you need to take to stay healthy, such as protien. eat beans or other non-meats that have protien, and eat dairy products to get those vitamins. good luck!

Hmm, you could probably save your own allowance to buy food. Or you could buy cheap veggie seeds from a nearby Home Depot to plant in a pot.

i wanted to be a vegan too and my parents wouldnt let me, if your real serious about it then just get a job and plant a garden like your mom said, or just find other items in your house that are costly and vegan, like ramen for example, sure theres beef flavoring but its not real beef ;)

Before you start, make sure you research the vitamins and minerals you are going to be missing. Then, you'll be able to tell what vitamins you'll have to buy in order to have a proper diet.

just start to be a vegetarian without her consent..lol
BUT make sure you know what you are doing becuase some vegetarians are extremely unhealthy!! Meat is an important part of the human diet, so make sure to find food that has everything that meat does
