I have never made my own Christmas dinner before and this year is my first year for my family. My husband's family is coming to visit us and I think as of now I will be making:

Spiral Ham
Green Bean Casserole
Corn Pudding
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet potato Casserole
Cranberry sauce (hopefully home made)
Pumpkin cheesecake

any other suggestions? What did you make for your first one? Does mine sound ok?

I am looking at making up some sandwiches and freezing them but unsure what i can freeze and can't freeze, I have looked around on the web and seen some ideas, I know you can freeze cheese sandwiches, but some people say about doing boiled eggs and mayo. but some also say that you cannot freeze boiled eggs or mayonaise as the mayonaise seperates. I also know you cannot freeze salad stuff and some veg either. People have also suggested freezing cooked meats but I was under the presumption that you cannot do this as it can cause food poisoning? Has anyone tried freezing sandwiches and if so what recipies have you used?

ok i admit i was brought up a little spoilt and my mum always cooked for me then my ex always liked to cook so ive only started to cook recently with my bf of 6 months. i love to bake cos thats structured and easy but im struggling with cooking and its really getting me down. im such a perfectionist and i hate that all the new stuff im trying out doesnt come out perfect first or second time round! i tried making a big breakfast for my bf on sunday and the fried eggs burnt to the pan, the mushrooms were not cooked...etc. i tried making a pasta bake and that was crap..i feel sorry for my bf as he has to endure this all! was it like this for you when you first started to cook or is it just me being a big failure in this? any tips? thanks. :-(

When you bake and store cookies, you can put an apple or a piece of bread in with them to make them softer or crunchier. Which is which?

Also, I put crunchy cookies made with Crisco in the same storage container as soft cookies made with margarine (sometimes I use butter). The crunchy Crisco cookies got soft and the soft margarine cookies got crunchy. Any clues as to why?

It has to be a "hot" dish for some reason. Any easy overnight crockpot ideas or something like that. I drive an hour to work so I would rather it be something I don't have to get up at 3 a.m. to cook. Just something that is good for a Christmas party and easy to make with not a lot of ingredients.

I don't think I have ever had tilapia. I heard a rumor that it is a rather bland tasting fish. What does it taste great with? Does it take on the flavor of anything you add to it (I heard that rumor, too). Any expert help on how to cook it? Please DON'T offer me recipes on FRYING tilapia, considering how I no longer fry anything, especially fish (I now bake or grill fish).

This is a spring event so I would like yummy and healthy seasonal fillings. My personal favorite is cream cheese with red currant/jalapeno chutney.

Also, what suggestions do you have for an alternative for bread and/or not letting the bread get stale. What about ways to not waste bread. I was thinking about baking different kinds ont he cutsey little shaped tubes but a bread baker I am not!

It is a 4 hour event and the trays will be passed and replenished but I have to assemble most everything prior to arriving at the location of the event due to space limitations.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
