in baking. i know how to use olive oil instead for other things, but for baking i don't know what to use, that is not margarine or shortening, because i heard its unnatural and bad for you, i also heard "i can't believe its not butter" is terrible for you. I think yogurt works or maybe applesauce, im not sure...

I was told that after baking Tin Foiled 8pd Prime Rib 1 hour @ 500 degrees, shut off oven and let it sit in closed oven for 10 hours and it would be ready to eat. It's been 5 hours now and the oven is cold to the touch on the window. What is a gal to do now with the dinner hour aproaching?

I love cupcakes. well I can't make them, I buy them from a bakery w/ sprinkles on top. my mom claims that all I'm eating is a piece of vanilla sheet cake or layer cake shaped like a cupcake! I swear that cupcakes and sheet cakes DON'T contain the same ingredients and they taste different from each other. My mom says vanilla sheet cakes and cupcakes are the same damn thing, just shaped differently. which one of us is right?

I used a recipe I got on about.com to make a chocolate pie and I followed the instructions exactly and it called for the pie to chill thoroughly -- I set the two pies in the refrigerator to chill when I went to bed last night. However, that has been close to 24 hours ago and the chocolate filling still hasn't set yet. It had an optional meringue to add to the top, but I wonder if I shouldn't have added the Meringue and it didn't call for putting the pies in the oven for any length of time like the chess pies I made. Should I have done that instead and then let it cool?

I need very fine ground walnut (like a cream) for a special food. I tried to find such a thing in the stores, but I couldn't (maybe since I didn't know under what name I should find it). Now, I am going to grind walnut, but not sure with what device. I know that fat of walnut may hurt the device. So, what should I do? Any suggestion?
