I used a recipe I got on about.com to make a chocolate pie and I followed the instructions exactly and it called for the pie to chill thoroughly -- I set the two pies in the refrigerator to chill when I went to bed last night. However, that has been close to 24 hours ago and the chocolate filling still hasn't set yet. It had an optional meringue to add to the top, but I wonder if I shouldn't have added the Meringue and it didn't call for putting the pies in the oven for any length of time like the chess pies I made. Should I have done that instead and then let it cool?

No clue what went wrong but here is a save....

Scrape the meringue off and toss.

Pour the filling into a bowl and whip in 1 package(the dry powder) of chocolate pudding for each pie. Pour back into your crust and put in frig to set.

Serve with whipped cream on top.

It should be set by now. If not, you are out of luck. Did you make the filling with pudding? If not, perhaps you can freeze the pie and serve it from its frozen state. If it was pudding, I wouldn't recommend freezing it. I don't know what a 'chess' pie is, sorry. Were these pies to be baked? Perhaps they weren't baked long enough, that would also explain the reason they are not set. You can either freeze it like I said before, or toss them out and start all over again. I bake alot and sometimes I've forgotten an ingredient. Perhaps you did that with your pie. Check your ingredient list again. I know it disappoints you to have to start all over again.
