He is coming home the 24th of October and has been training in the Army since July. I really want to make him something special for when he gets back! I would say I am an average cook, better than a lot of people that I know. But there are a few things that I am not familiar with when it comes to baking, such as cheesecakes and more time-involved desserts.
I am looking for a recipe that has a lot of chocolate or richness to it. Maybe some really good brownies, a pie, or a special cake. Thanks to anyone that can help, my cookbooks don't have much in them!

My ex was from St. Louis, and often mentioned this local delicacy but unfortunately dumped me before she could show me how to make it. Watching the Cardinals trounce the Mets while testing out my brand new deep fryer made me recall this delicious sounding treat, and I'd like to try making it. It's deep fried ravioli, right? Homemade ravioli? Store bought? Frozen, refigerated, canned? Oil temperature? Details are welcome.

I have several recipes that call for kosher salt, I have sea salt and would just as soon use that as buying kosher salt if the difference is small enough... What is the difference?

I made ham and bean soup. I did not use any additional salt in the recipe other than what salt was already in the ham. I was told to try puttng a potato in while cooking, however I was not successful. Any suggestions or do I just chalk one up to a salty batch?
