He is coming home the 24th of October and has been training in the Army since July. I really want to make him something special for when he gets back! I would say I am an average cook, better than a lot of people that I know. But there are a few things that I am not familiar with when it comes to baking, such as cheesecakes and more time-involved desserts.
I am looking for a recipe that has a lot of chocolate or richness to it. Maybe some really good brownies, a pie, or a special cake. Thanks to anyone that can help, my cookbooks don't have much in them!

If you want to try something a bit different but not too tough, try something like these:

Baked Alaska- the basic idea here is ice cream on a cake, brownie, or cookie base. Use fun ice cream flavors, like strawberry or peach, for extra flavor. You can either make individual servings or a big chunk. Freeze the whole thing solid. Just before serving, make up some merangue (the hardest step), then coat the ice cream/cake TOTALLY- nice thick coat that seals it totally to the baking pan. Bake in a hot oven for a short time. If desired, dowse in warmed brandy and set aflame.

Try searching for a good recipe site. I like foodnetwork.com, but there are a LOT of others- allrecipies.com, etc.

Hamburger helper is good and easy tuna helper also. You can make a chicken casserole not only is it good but healthy too. The easy way is to get to boxes of macaroni and cheese, a can of peas and a can of corn. Get some boneless chicken breast, and saute it over a hot skillet with some canola oil or olive oil which ever you prefer cut the chicken into slices, drain the can veggies after they are cooked mix all those ingredients before addin the cheese than ad the cheese. After That get a baking pan pour the mixture in the baking pan spreading it evenly. Once thats done get some shredded cheese put on top and bake until the the cheese is melted. Let cool and enjoy. This goes well with dinner rolls and sweet tea.

Add the flour mixtrue in 3 parts, alternating with the milk. Toss the beries with the remaining 1 to 2 tablespoons of flour (to separate and scatter evenly throughout the batter) and fold in. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Set aside.

3 Combine ingredients for topping with a fork to make crumbly mixture. Sprinkle this over the batter.

4 Bake for one hour, then test for doneness by gently inserting a fork. If it does not come out clean, give the cake another 5 to 10 minutes to bake.

5 When the cake has cooled, run a knife around the edges and lift the cake out o the pan.

Serve with whipped cream !! Mmmmmm!!!

1 3/4 cups whipping cream
12 ounces quality semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 ounces espresso or strong coffee
1 tablespoon dark rum
4 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon flavorless, granulated gelatin

Chill 1 1/2 cups whipping cream in refrigerator. Chill metal mixing bowl and mixer beaters in freezer.
In top of a double boiler, combine chocolate chips, coffee, rum and butter. Melt over barely simmering water, stirring constantly. Remove from heat while a couple of chunks are still visible. Cool, stirring occasionally to just above body temperature.

Pour remaining 1/4 cup whipping cream into a metal measuring cup and sprinkle in the gelatin. Allow gelatin to "bloom" for 10 minutes. Then carefully heat by swirling the measuring cup over a low gas flame or candle. Do not boil or gelatin will be damaged. Stir mixture into the cooled chocolate and set aside.

In the chilled mixing bowl, beat cream to medium peaks. Stir 1/4 of the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture to lighten it. Fold in the remaining whipped cream in two doses. There may be streaks of whipped cream in the chocolate and that is fine. Do not over work the mousse.

Spoon into bowls or martini glasses and chill for at least 1 hour. Garnish with fruit and serve.

(If mousses are to be refrigerated overnight, chill for one hour and then cover each with plastic wrap)

This is one of the best desserts I have ever made and it really doesn't take that long. It's amazing if you love chocolate, and it's also as rich as you're looking for.

Try lookup up 'Chatelaine.com' or Canadianliving.com, as well. I've gotten some amazing recipes off of those sites.

Simple.
You, some candles, a can of whip cream and the kitchen table.
He will love it.

When you are done with that, both of you can sit on the kitchen floor, cool off and eat this.

"Oh My God"
I package of chocolate cake mix
1 package of cream cheese (softened)
two eggs
1 stick of butter.(softened)
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
2 tbspns water

2 cups of confectioners sugar
1 stick of butter (softened)
1 tsp butter rum or vanilla (your choice) flavoring
whip this part really good.

Mix the first part, in a seperate bowl, pour in a square baking dish, about 12 inches.
Then mix second part in a seperate bowl pour on top of the first part that is already in the dish.

Crunch up heath bars (2-3) and sprinkle on top. bake for an hour.

Let it cool in fridge. When it solidifies, cut into squares or dip it out with a spoon.
It is called "Oh My God"
and it is the perfect ending to some hard work on the kitchen table. Just sticking your fingers in it together and putting it in your mouth in between kisses will be the perfect homecoming.

Good luck!

radiator cake. it's pretty much graham crackers and whipped cream. Maybe you could mix melted chocolate in the whipped cream. But that's about as simple as it gets.
