And what are just the basics we can get by on? I'm thinking the whole budget should be about $4000 to:
order invitations
buy a dress
pay the ceremony fee for the church
rent a reception site
have floral arrangements
have a photgrapher
have enough hor d'ourves and wedding cake for 50-60 people.

Am I missing anything? Is it a bad idea to get a loan for just a one-day celebration that might take 3 or more years to pay off?

ok so me and fiance are 22 years old, we have been together for 3 years and engaged for 2 years... We both want to get married the only problem is both our parents want us to wait until we are older like 25 or 26 years old, but who wants to be engaged for 6 years that just sounds and looks stupid. We were thinking about just going to get married and Have an "actual wedding later" and we wont tell anyone, only catch is how do we keep it secret? His mom works for the school district as a accountant and I work in the district too! she may see that my tax info has change to married...do you think we can get away with it? how can we go about this without anyone knowing...except for us. oh yeah and did i mention hes her only child....ugh help!!

It is set in a tiffany style setting so is quite raised. I have accidently knocked the ring on my dining room table and after closer inspection it appears to have cracked perfectly straight across slightly lower than half the depth of the diamond, if that makes any sense. From side to side. I cant remember seeing this in the diamond. This is a very obvious line, not a feather.

My bf and I are planning to have a small thing in front of a few family members stating our vows to each other. However because we can't afford to be legally married we're being judged!? :-( He's on disability and if we marry he loses too much right now. We're deeply in love and if it weren't for the government having control of his money we'd be planning the legal part as well. My questions is... Why do some people see us as sinners because money is keeping us from making it legal? We're both Christians and he attends church every Sunday. I'm still not comfortable with church because I feel like we're judged every time we go. We had one woman tell us that hi even holding my hand was a sin. It's just disgusting to me that even in "God's house" as the preacher calls our church we're still being judged by "holy rollers" :-( He's even saving himself for me until we've shared our vows. I made the mistake and had sex at a young age.

We are in our 30's & have been living together for about 4yrs. So, really we don't *need* anything. We registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target ~ most of the stuff we picked out was either to get a matched set or upgrade. Their were a few items we added that we want, but don't really need.

Anyway ~ even though we were at each store for *hours* I think we ended up registering for less than 80 items total.

What about everyone else ~ did you register for a lot? A little? How much of it did you need? Did people buy from your registry?

(I know it's an inane question ~ forgive me, I seem to be obsessed w/everything wedding related :) And like to hear stories from other brides.)

So my fiancee (now boyfriend) and I were set to get married may 24 2008. Dress is bought, hall is paid for yada yada ya... and now unfortunately our funding for it has been messed up so now we have absolutely no money for the wedding. So it is now postponed for at least 3 years. How do I handle this? Now we cant stop fighting and I spent all day crying my eyes out at work... I dunno what to do. Our parents won't let us get married without the big ceremony for our families to be there at least (which totals about 100 guests) and really I know I am an adult and don't have to listen but it would mean the world to me if they were there. Please help me get through this. I don't know who to talk to.

My bf and I have been dating for the past 6 years. Recently, we have been having a lot of problems around the whole marriage issue. I am definitely ready to spend the rest of my life with him, but he is very focused on medical school, and cannot give me any insight as to when he thinks he can be ready to have a life with me. I don't want to lose him because I love him, and I cannot picture myself with anyone else, but at the same time, I don't know how long I can wait to become more of a priority in his life. Any help would be great...

I know that diamonds are the "traditional" engagement stone, and I've heard a lot of people say that they like other things than diamonds. Well, I'm picking my engagement ring. I dont want anything really expensive, we're both in college right now and cant afford it but I like the idea of having something different...So tell me which one you like better!!! Thank yall so much!

Assume that he was just looking, no touching, and certainly no hanky-panky. Would you dump him?

I'm looking for black bridesmaid's dress with champagne (or similar shade) sashes. I've seen a few dresses here and there, but mostly strapless.

I do like strapless gowns. But, I'm also looking for other types of necklines, etc.

The dresses need to be long/formal and no more then $175.

Please no David's Bridal.

I just got a call from a lady who says she works with Georgia Bridal Showcase. She told me that out of a drawing of abou 200, 10 names were picked and i was one of them. She said she got my name from theknot.com which i visit all the time. She said all we have to do is come to the Holiday Inn and pick up our gifts which are 2 free tickets to the bridal expo, 3 days and 2 nights free to anywhere we want to go (about 26 locations) and 1/2 off on the cutlery and cookware they sell. She said that this is the only bridal expo that doesnt make you go to a timeshare, no catches etc. All we have to do is show up, they will have lunch for us and get our gifts and go home.

So...of course i am weary of all of this. Has anyone else followed through with something like this and found it legitamate?

I just dont want to waste my time because its about an hour drive. Of course the lady seemed so sincere on the phone and said it wasnt a scam..blah blah blah.

Thanks!

My stepmother cannot make it to our wedding. Should we still list her under 'Wedding Party', or mention her somewhere else in the program, or leave her name out of the program altogether?

My fiance and I will be putting our tentatively-finalized guest list together (finalized enough that we will be able to determine what size room we will need for our reception) this weekend. I am curious as to who people normally allow to bring a guest, and who gets invited alone. Some people we're thinking of inviting that I envision this issue coming up for include:

- A few friends from college who know each other. Some have gf's, some don't.

- A couple professors from college. They are all married.

- My fiance's cousins. Some are married, some dating, some single. One is a young kid.

- A couple of my fiance's friends from waaaay back - they're single now, but that changes fairly often with them. BTW, 2 of these guys may end up being my fiance's groomsmen.

- My brother - he's been with his gf for 3 months.

Do we just allow everyone to bring a guest/significant other? What is the proper etiquette for this?

Thanks for the help!

I am trying to put together my centerpieces because the material i have is seasonal, or limited I need to order it all now. while it is still in stock.

However i don't have my R.S.V.P back yet so I really do not know how many people are attending we are assuming about 50 people but really are not sure.

is it ok for some tables to go without centerpieces.

yes i forgot to mention it is for a wedding the centerpiece are a bit over the top. that is the reason for my concern

We've already had two of them. For a family of 3, we gave them 2 spots because we didn't want the baby coming. When we get the reply card back, we got a message saying that the baby will be coming but we didn't have to feed him

On another card, we allotted 3 spots to a family of 4 with the hint that they should find a sitter for the youngest baby.

The card said ___ of 3 guests attending. The invitee crossed out the 3 and put a 4 down! The nerve!

Have you been hosed by your wedding invitees?

Let them eat cake! Again with the medieval wedding .... Our primary wedding cake will be a small 2 tier spice cake with cream cheese frosting and marzipan fruits around the bases which we will cut with his sword. Our options from there are to either make it larger and have our guests served from this or keeping with the family style dinner we would have a smaller version delivered to each of the 4 long tables... or as a third option we could have little piles of cupcakes of vairous flavors delivered to each table also decorated with the marzipan...help!

If you are engaged/married and you get a wedding invitation that is addressed to only you and not your fiance/spouse, is it rude to call and say something or ask why he/she isn't included?
