Hello folks!!! I went in last night to get my dress altered and OMG!!! I am wondering what the average price is or what others paid for their alterations. Mine is 30/hr. I'm still going OMG, OMG, OMG.

I have to have it hemmed, taken in, taken out and have the beading from the hem put back on (estimated 10hrs.) i live in Vermont, it seemed reasonable because of all the work that has to be done.

If you didn't have the bead work to contend with then it wouldn't cost as much. It is because of that that it will be $300, so that seems about right. I know women who have spent a lot more than that on alterations with intricate beading. Of course it varies depending on where you are and who you go to. People who are highly reccomended with years of experience are going to charge more because they are worth more.

If you are in doubt, call around in your area and see what other shops charge.

Good luck!

Mine was $30 and hour, so the total cost to have my dress altered was $150 because I had the dress redone. But if you are just getting it hemmed and taken in a little bit, it shouldn't run you more than $100.

A professional seamstress can easily get $30 per hour to alter a wedding dress. It's a huge undertaking and far more difficult than altering the hemline on a pair of pants.

I'm having my backless dress converted to a dress with a back, and lots of areas will need to be taken in and it will be bustled. I was quoted a price of $100 plus I paid $40 for the extra material.

I paid a total of $130 for hemming a dress, bra cups and 1 point bustle.

Hemming a wedding dress is a pain in the butt with all of the layers and slippery fabrics, so be happy that someone who knows what they are doing is doing it.

I paid about $200 for alterations on my dress...I had the sides taken in, the hem done, bra cups added, and the bustle done.

You must live in New York. Or that place is a high end shop. Check the yellow pages for a seamstress....make an appointment, take the dress, and see if she/he can do the desired alterations, for less. Just make sure they show you samples of their handiwork, to make sure they are qualified.

Mine was $40 to have it taken out a little. I don't know how many hours. You might want to find someone who will give you a flat rate, because if you pay by the hour they might take longer. Just a thought.

I had my dress altered (it was way too long and a bit too big) it was $65 when all was said and done. I thought that was reasonable.

Did she tell you how many hours she expected it to take? Because if it's one or two hours that should be fine.

When i worked at the bridal shop, they charged for alterations based on the task, not by the hour. I honestly dont know how that would calculate out per hour.
