We have a lot of friends helping out during our wedding ceremony:

- our Pastor who is the officiant
- some friends who are leading worship
- a good friend who is doing all of the flowers and decorations (we are footing the bill)
- our friend who is the translator (bilingual service)
- a friend who is doing the photography

The question is: Who do we pay and who do we take out to dinner informally as a gesture of thanks?

At what stage in your life and relationship did this happen? Are you still with that person now?

Hi!
My fiancé and I are engaged to be married May 10, 2008. We have told everyone that we know about the date. After we got engaged we moved into a new home and changed jobs things which made us run into money problems so we stopped all the planning for the wedding as most places wanted a $1,000 + deposit. I don’t see us having much more money than we do now by the beginning of next year, so, should we just change the date for way further along so I can stop torturing myself with guilt for not planning the wedding? Other couples that got engaged at the same time we did have mostly everything picked out, so I feel bad when people ask me how the wedding plans are coming.

Thanks in advance!

My wedding is coming up next year. We'll be happy to have our friends and family celebrate the event with us, but I imagine that some people will want to congratulate us by sending a gift. This will be very hard to deal with, for the reasons below.

My fiancée and I have been together for years. We already have everything that we need and almost everything that we want. We'll be getting married in the USA, but we live oversees. It would probably cost as much to ship gifts as to buy them new over there.

I don't like the idea of directing people how to give me things. It just seems rude. I certainly am not going to ask for cash. Even asking that gifts not be given seems presumptuous. On the other hand, I hate to accept people's gifts knowing that I'm just going to have to sell them or re-gift them.

What would you do?

Ok, I am getting married in Sept 2009 (A year and 9 months away). We are waiting so long b/c we really want to afford our wedding. Both our families will be helping out and we between the 2 of us we can afford about 6 grand. For the next 6 months I want to explore every avenue for getting the best deals on everything from invitations, to halls, to caters etc. I am not looking for a "cheap" wedding but I want it to fullfill my dream and not cost 20 grand. There are only a few things I want for sure. I want to have about 200 people and I want it at a hall with good food (not necissarily steak but just yummy good) and music. Othe r then that I don't care about the rest of the stuff, I can compromise and pretty much make it work. Does anyone know good ways of cutting costs? (Also, I am getting a deal on the catering and hall b/c my uncle owns the catering service).

My cousin is getting married in early January and I am unable to attend. I mailed back the RSVP indicating why we are unable to attend. When should I mail the couple a wedding card with money? Do I send it before the wedding or after?

Thanks!

Okay get your minds out of the gutter. I'm wondering about diamonds!

I'll be purchasing an engagement ring here soon and I'm dreading it. It's not because I don't want to get married, it's just that the price of diamonds seems so grossly overexaggerated.

Anyhow, I would like to get a colorless of near colorless very good to ideal cut ston that's VS2 or better. Considering that this would be a fairly high quality diamond what size is a good size? Is under a carat too small for an engagement ring?

I want to make sure that I get my soon to be fiance something she will be proud of and happy with for years to come, but I want to make sure that I can still cover my mortgage and all of the bills.

We are both very ready to be married. We have been friends since high school and have lived together for about 8 months now (and yes, we've slept together). We are in our earliy 20's. We are thinking about getting married in the next week or two and then not telling anyone (with the exception of our mothers) and the having the foraml cerimoney later, probobly around September of 2008. The earliness would be soely for renting, insurance, and other financial reasons. It would make things a lot easier, and we both don't want to wait that long. But we both want a big wedding with everyone there, and the whole nine yards. I wouldn't change my name or anything until the service. My mother got married a few months before her wedding too... So I don't know, any thoughts or things I'm not considering?

I'm getting married in few months and I'm not sure exactly what I want. We're not having a big formal wedding or anything and I'd like to have something simple... knee length and not a lot of detail. I don't really want anything stark white either. I don't know... Please help.

It’s hard to get an unbiased opinion from friends and family about this. My dad has many good qualitites and has always been for me in a conventional sense. While he regrets it, he moved away when I was 13, I still saw him often, but I was mostly raised by my step dad. I would like my step dad to walk me down the aisle not because of the cultural meaning but because it would mean a lot to me for him to share that moment with me. My real father doesn’t believe in the idea of marriage and thinks my decision to do this is rather silly. He drinks a lot, and tends to go off on people for no apparent reason other than he’s unhappy. I know having my step dad walk me down the aisle would hurt my real dad. He has chosen to ignore how his behavior affects me my whole life – So should I consider his feelings? Yes, I should, but how much? My options at this point are A) walk with my step dad or B) walk alone.

I'm making the invitation for my friend's bridal shower, and I wasn't sure if it's proper, rude, okay, etc. to list where she's registered on the invitation. Any thoughts?
Thank you!

Since rent should take up no more than 33% of your pay, that means that we would need a household income of at least $4500/month in order to live in a 1BR apartment in SoCal. He makes nowhere near that, maybe $2200/month. He has been searching for a good IT job in the area for over a year. His current employer's company will most likely go bankrupt very soon, and this employer has not given him a raise in over a year. I know my fiance is constantly looking for a job, but in all this time he's been to 2 or 3 interviews. When I ask him about how we are going to live on his current pay (I am a full-time student but am willing to take on a part-time job), he does not give me a direct answer: something like, "Don't worry about it; I will get a job." I love him very much, and I will never leave him, but it really worries me when I do not know how we will be able to support ourselves at the minimum. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should handle this situation?

My mother and father have divorced a few months ago and their divorce is now final. My dad reimburses me for anything I pay for that is wanted or needed for the wedding. My mother is being bitter and knows that my dad has money to pay for a reasonable wedding even though she just got a huge settlement of money in the divorce. I feel like she is trying to stick my dad with paying for the entire wedding or the bulk of it ..instead of helping! She has told me she will only pay for 3000 of it even though she has a lot of money as well! She is insisting that we have this huge sit down dinner ( We are having about 400 guests!) but I am not willing to ask my dad to shell out that kind of money just on food alone! I just don't know what to do anymore.. she wants all the extravagant things and is trying to have my dad pay for it all without saying that! What do I do?

I'm not the best at pairing jewelry with dresses so I need a little help in this area! I'm thinking a simple pendant and earrings, nothing flashy though, what do you think?

Also, I'm doing an updo, and kinda wanted my BMs to wear their hair down or only half up to stand apart. But one BM said an updo would look best because it's a long dress and pretty formal wedding. But the dresses will have a fushchia sash that kind of makes them less formal.

Here's the dress, it will be in black with a fuschia sash right under the bust.

Obviously I know I could go to a florist but is that my best best? DO they have fake petals somewhere that would be less expensive? How much are the real petals vs. fake ones?

Thanks!!
