I'm getting married in few months and I'm not sure exactly what I want. We're not having a big formal wedding or anything and I'd like to have something simple... knee length and not a lot of detail. I don't really want anything stark white either. I don't know... Please help.

I would go right after the Holidays to the department stores. Then they should have a lot of holiday dresses on sale, and you should be able to find something without spending a lot of money. You can also look and "bridesmaid's" dresses. They tend to be simple, and you will have a greater selection of cocktail length dresses.

Borrow or second handstores spring to mind if money is a problem sisters or friends might have something that will do yyou but if you want... have one maade or go and try on some aat a local wedding rental place theyy are thrilled to help and you might at least get some viable ideas
Think outside the box and go for a dress from a different culture than yours a kimono is gorgeous or a sari or a saarong ,matching lava lavas for a fella and his bride, or kilt for the groom and his best men and gorgeous celtic bride gown available ooon the net or try a bunad from norway ...Historiical is also a great posibilityy
But i hear that you want a simple knee lenght off white A-line dress wtih short or no sleeves because you didnt mention them possibly a suit in ivory
Give away rice coupons and consiider it thrown aaat the local soup kitchen instead of at you. go hoooneymooon instead of a big reception thanking family and friends for the tripp contributions have a great time take pictures for you and family to view in seperate books your private book being those sweet moments of sweet hearts the world ove r of gazing deeppply into their eyes wit h Niagara falls in back ground

try prom dresses and homecoming dresses and bridesmaids dresses.
try dressier spring/easter dresses.
oh try formal (it's not all formal formal trust me) consignment shops, and goodwill type stores.
check craigslist and ebay

there are a ton of sites on line to look in to also. search for bridesmaid or prom dresses and look at the results

there is a 2nd hand dress store near me where i found a great floor length sparkly formal gown to wear to a black tie wedding a few years ago. they have everything from beach causal to uber fluff wedding dresses. stock always changes so it's better to shop soon and get something that you really like

we are having a causal outdoor wedding ourselves. i'm looking for a strapless or cup sleeved tea length dress with minimal detail. i'll probly get white and maybe add color with a ribbon sash if the mood strikes.

I do not suggest the internet as you never truly know until you try the dress on. I was in love with this one style, when I tried it on I was horrified! I ended up with something I never thought I would choose! Go with a BM or something close and non critical and try on a boat load. Make a day out of it. Best of Luck!

i agree about the stark white, it doesn't really suit very many people at all. this is my ideal dress for an intimate wedding:
tea length, fitted to an empire waist, with spaghetti straps and a bolero jacket, barely pink or blush in color, very filmy layers in the skirt portion of your dress, . very feminine and dainty. strappy shoes, and a small bouquet of your favourite flowers!

happy wedding!

Depending on how basic the wedding will be, you could always get something that could be worn to other formal events.

Check out the trashy magazines...they always have great dresses worn on the red carpets...like:

You can take the picture to a dress maker and go from there.

Congratulations!
