I know that diamonds are the "traditional" engagement stone, and I've heard a lot of people say that they like other things than diamonds. Well, I'm picking my engagement ring. I dont want anything really expensive, we're both in college right now and cant afford it but I like the idea of having something different...So tell me which one you like better!!! Thank yall so much!

to heck with the comment of saving money - i think the diamond is vastly overrated and i prefer sapphires to diamonds. i had my diamond and sapphire ring long before the princess did - in fact, once her ring was shown all our friends phoned and teased us about diana scooping my ring!
as for your choices, i think they are both beautiful. for myself i like the second one as i am not a tiny petite kinda gal and it would just suit my hand better and i prefer it just because it is different and not everyone would have it.
do your research as someone else suggested, get the most bang for your buck and wear your ring proudly!
good luck with your studies sweetie and happy engagement - wishing you a life of cheer!

Although I agree w/everyone else that the second is a little over the top ~ I totally love it :)

Let me say that I am *not* a person who is into big, flashy jewelery. In fact, the only jewelery I wear on a day to day basis is my engagement ring. However, the 2nd ring is so unique & pretty ~ I would choose it, if I were you.

Granted, the 1st one is much more classy & traditional. But it really looks like every other ring. The fact that you are picking pink sapphires tells me that you are not a "follow the crowd" sort of person ~ therefore, you should be original & go for ring #2 :)

Either way, congrats & good luck wthe wedding planning :)

I really like the first one. I think the second one is a little costume like for an engagement ring! I think the idea of having something different is great. I opted for a small diamond with two blue sapphires on the side. I wanted something that wasnt the traditional big circle diamond!! Good luck choosing!

Colored gemstone rings are all the rage right now and have always been around since Lady Diana made it popular in the 80's. It's better to have a colored gemstone because it reduces the likelyhood that you are contributing to "blood diamond conflicts" and you are also showing your uniqueness. I just recently upgraded my diamond for a large blingy gemstone wedding ring. It's being made right now..

Before you buy anything, you might want to check out the same website I used...it's an online wholesaler and their quality is absolutely fabulous..

My ring will be ready in two weeks, but they also have pre-made rings and a large selection of sapphires. Just be sure you are doing your rsearch and getting the most you can get for the money.

Going with a store like Zales, you might be paying more than you should for the "retail" quality they have. Just be sure you have really searched high and low before you choose your stone.

Having said that, I like the first one.

Congratulations on your choice and you are totally in style by choosing the colored gemstone. Don't ever say to people that you have it because "you are trying to save money." Gemstones are precious and expensive in their own right. Be proud of your choice and be sure to keep it clean, as it will draw attention.

Seems like everyone likes the first one better. Except myself and I think one other person. I love the pink sapphire idea, and I think that if you're going to do it a little bit, you should go all the way, and have lots of pink. The first ring almost makes the center sapphire look sad and alone. I don't mind the side stones on the first one, but I don't like the diamonds that are channel set into the ring under all the other stones. The second one really makes a statement, and I'm thinking that that is more your style being that you're going pink in the first place.

I'm going with blue topaz myself kind of like this ring, except with a thinner band.

I love coloured stones, and there is no law saying it has to be a diamond (that was the diamond companies and their very clever marketing ploys!) so I think a pink sapphire is a lovely choice of stone. I do love square cuts better than rounds, but the first ring is more delicate and appeals to me more, however if you want big and bold the second ring is also lovely. My best wishes to you.

I like the first one, and I also agree with the "who needs diamonds, when you like another stone better?" philosophy. I personally love sapphires, and I LOVE aquamarine. I actually just got an intrically designed band for my engagement ring, and for my wedding ring I am wearing a family heirloom (which does have a diamond, but it is placed in an antique setting and band and really speaks to me taste).

Good on you for thinking outside the box!

Go for the first one. The second is a bit too much and will probably date. I have also fallen in love with pink sapphires and am getting them in my wedding ring . Something different and sooo pretty hey?

I love that the first one has the saying in Past Present Future in the band but I love the second one. I would say if you are looking for something that is not traditional and definitely would go with the second one. It is beautiful! Good luck and congratulations!
