It is set in a tiffany style setting so is quite raised. I have accidently knocked the ring on my dining room table and after closer inspection it appears to have cracked perfectly straight across slightly lower than half the depth of the diamond, if that makes any sense. From side to side. I cant remember seeing this in the diamond. This is a very obvious line, not a feather.

We bought it in Dubai. Had it valued in England. It had a brilliant valuation. it never left my sight. It may not have been the table but thats all i can think ive done. ive taken great great care of it. no flaw was mentioned and the valuer was very thorough. I will take your advice and pop into jewellers.

Update, I have been to my jewellers and after 2 people looked at it, thankfully what appears at first glance to be a crack is infact an illusion caused by the many facets cut into the diamond, it create the effect of a pool of water sitting in the point of the diamond. in 19 years of specialising in diamonds only one other person had the same question and thats how they knew it wasnt a crack. They even pulled 3 rings out of the window to prove they had the same appearance. Thank you for all your answers

If it cracked, it isn't a diamond.....a diamond is the strongest stone known to man....even stronger than man made stones....
Take it back to where you got it and see if they can't fix it. I'd hope you'd get some sort of insurance for a 1k ring...
Good luck

Alright. Diamonds shouldnt crack, they are the hardest substance, but if there was a flaw line in it, the knock you gave it could of been the last straw and cracked it. I have read that it is possible and also that the princess cut diamond is the most easily to break because of the shape of it.
Another possibility is that the jeweler that you took it to for the valuation did the old "switcheroo" and valued your diamond then replaced it with a cubic zirconia.
Take it to another jeweller, get it tested to make sure it still is in fact the diamond you paid for. If it is and it is insured, no biggie, claim in on insurance and get a new diamond.
If your diamond was valued as real by a jeweler and then you find out it is fake, I would be seeking legal advice.
Good luck, I hope you get to the bottom of it. Would like to hear the outcome.

Diamonds are the hardest stone anyone knows about, and they don't crack, especially not after an "accidental knock on the dining room table." Either 1) you already know that and you're just asking so you can brag about your huge rock (ooh ahh, who cares?), 2) You did something MUCH more than hit it on the table, 3) You're seeing things, or 4) It's not a real diamond.
If it's not 1, 2, or 3, I'd take it to a jeweler.

Diamonds can surly crack and chip.
better to take it off right away before it gets worse! Take it to a jeweler, they could maybe seal it back together, maybe cut you two new (really smalls stones for some earings), or you'll need a new ring.
Diamonds are the hardest, but not the toughest!

Diamonds don't crack. It is incredibly hard to crack a diamond. In fact when they shape them with a sander, the sander has diamond bits on it because the only thing hard enough to cut diamond is diamond. They even use them in drills to cut through rock. Sounds like you've been duped by your jeweler. Or it isn't really a crack but a flaw in the diamond that runs straight across the middle. A flaw like that would devalue the diamond considerably and you may have been gipped on the price.

IF it is a true diamond - it isn't easy to crack. You may have marred it.
Take it to the jewelry store where it was purchased. Depending on the store, they may have a replacement policy if the stone was cracked.
I know that my jeweler, Helzburgs, would take care of it for me - you shouldn't be able to crack it, so what may have happened is that you increased a flaw that was already present.

Ok, so what is your question?
Is the diamond insured? Take it to a jeweler tomorrow to find out what is really going on with it.
The truth is, whatever the diamond hit would have cracked...not the diamond. Unless it's not a diamond (uh oh!).
Good luck!

My diamond looked cracked also and I brought it for inspection. They looked at it and said it was an imperfection in the diamond and that it is very hard to crack a diamond. My advise to you is bring it in some places will let you look through it also.

I dont know for sure but I do remember reading that on the rare occasion diamonds can chip. I guess you hit it on its sweet spot. Is it a real diamond?
