I have a young brother. He's in eight grade right now and I really dont think he's going in the right track. He lies about trivial things such as playing on the computer, TV, etc. etc. He's getting C's in his classes. But, he's such a genius as in he has so much potential in fields of science and math...but he just won't try, or listen. I tried talking to him but he doesnt care and always gets really angry. I feel like I am not doing my job as a sister. We used to get along so well but now we are drifting apart. My dad doesnt really pay attention to my brother and my mom tries so hard to create a positive environment and all that. I don't even think he will pass school or whatever. What should I do? Or Am i overreacting....im scared to death. I dont want him to fall into a wrong path and suffer his entire life.. any answers will be appreciated. thank you

My great-grandmother was admitted to the hospital Mon. morning. We have just recently discovered that she has congestive heart failure. She is 96 years old. My family is all located in Michigan, I live in Georgia, it is a 13 hr. drive. I want to be there to say goodbye. My family is concerned with the unexpected cost of me coming up there and are trying not to worry me. They're all taking this hard and I wish so bad I could be there with them. I do not work but my husband does and we only have one car, I can't afford to fly. My husband is leaving his job soon for another, the Navy. The doctor offered to send my great-grandmother home with a diuretic, but she keeps falling and my grandparents cannot lift her. After learning this the doctor said well than let's keep her here and take it one day at a time. They're doing an ultrasound today to see how serious the condition is. They do know she has fluid in her lungs. Should I rush to MI or wait here in GA? What would you do?

Last week my ten-years-younger brother (he's 10, I'm 20) who is in the fifth grade was put in time out for an hour because some kid chased him with a freshly sharpened pencil threatening to stab him with it. When the kid caught my brother, he really did try to stab at him but, thankfully, my brother had on a very thick jacket so the pencil never pentrated. My brother retaliated and when the teachers saw this, they put both boys in time out for an hour. My parents and I congratulated my brother for standing up for himself and me and my mother will be having a very strongly worded talk with the teachers (and possibly the principal) about this event.
When asked why my brother was put in time out, the teacher said "he should have come to us instead of reatiliating. We had to punish him too". Do you agree with this? What are some things you would tell the teachers/principal? Do you agree with punishing both parties of a "fight" even though one started it because no one told the teacher?

I hold open doors for woman all the time. It’s out of respect but I see many men not doing that. “Why” Is honor dead or are we starting to slack teaching our children respect?

My two sons live at home, neither of them gave me anything or done anything (or even a hug would have been perfect) for me last Sunday, which was Mother's day here in Ireland.
I was so upset the last couple of days that I felt I should ask my eldest (22) what was it I had done, or not done etc., I did this nice and quietly and calmly a short while ago.
His reaction was.....
"Oh, god you're over-reacting"
What should I do ?.

I am a single mother of a 3 year old. I live in New Orleans Louisiana. I have been told that none of the Housing Assistance programs are accepting new applicants due to the after affects of Hurricane Katrina. I have been turned down for Child Care Assistance and Food Stamps... but I barely scrape by after paying for daycare. I live with my parents at the moment, but they are not so happy about my son and myself staying here. They want us out. I have no place to go. What other assistance programs are out there? Please help me. I don't know what to do.

O.K. my sister has abandoned her family, including 3 kids, and only speaks to my dad because he gives her money. I am certain she is doing drugs. She is not a kid, 35, and used to be just fine; great mom, wife, sister, daughter. I just found out that she stole prescription medication, and money from my parents house. I'm looking for some website or group to show my dad that giving her money and bailing her out of her problems is not helping her, but actually hurting her in the long run. She needs help, but not the help my dad is giving her. Maybe I am wrong, but I truly believe handing money to someone on drugs for "groceries" or what not is not the best idea.

My birth father left my mom and I when I was 3. He later relinquished his parental rights when I was 5. I was then adopted by my step father. My birthfather has never made contact since I was 4. I am now 36. I made contact with my birth father 4 months ago. It looks like it will be a long process to estalish any type of relationship. I learned that I have 4 siblings who range from 16-30 years old. These 4 people do not know I exsist. My birth father does not want to tell his kids until the youngest finishes school, as he is concerned it will negatively disrupt their lives. I feel a bit cheated that these 4 will not know me until I am approaching my 40's. If my birth father disconnects from this reuniting process, is it awful of me to connect with his kids ( my half siblings) knowing he (birth father) did not want me to do this for a few years?

ok on my birthday a couple of days ago my step cousin said she could not go out with me because her boyfriend who never met her family said so. We had this planned for months. They have been dating for a year and she still has yet to meet his parents, he does not want to meet hers etc. So I told her he was acting like an idiot. I feel like he is not good for her and she hung up on me and is no longer talking to me. I feel like she is acting like a child because I even aplogized twice. Should I keep trying to speajk to her or should I leave her alone? Everytime she gets a boyfriend she goes physco. I am married by the way. Thanks!~

They both want credit for taking care of me, but I was in foster care since infancy, & the birth mom didn't raise me. The foster mom took care of me, but the state PAID her to do that. Otherwise, she wouldn't have taken care of strange babies for free. THE STATE OF LOUISIANA was our guardian & my twin sister & I were a ward of the courts (state). So, how can my foster mom say, "I've been taking care of you for 18 years!" & the biological mom says that she, herself took care of me because her Social Security beneficiary check was child support. NOT! The STATE took care of us.

& the foster mom says, "I should've left y'all nasty, filthy, dirty babies where I found y'all!" & the birth mom says that she's smarter than ALL of her children. Well, I'm 23 with a college degree & birth mom started popping babies @ 13 & became granny @ age 29.

The foster mom stole my trust fund check from my dad & foster care check, & Social Security backpay check. I felt so betrayed.
