My friend told me she was going to have 'spin-the-bottle' at her 14th birthday party. But my mom over heard too, and now she won't let me go! I'm 14, is me playing 'spin-the-bottle' OK? If not, why not?

My God, what is wrong with these people it is spin the bottle not let's go have sex. Everyone in middle school has played spin the bottle, it is almost a rite of passage. Yes, I think your mom is being over protective, my mom was the same way and I missed out on many of the things kids my age got to do. She would not let me date, sleep over at a friends house, go to parties or even let boys call the house until I was 17 going on 18. I feel like I did miss out on a lot because of her over protectiveness I now know it was because she loved me but dear God was she strict. Parents need to learn to let their kids be kids and have fun and if they slip up let them learn from their mistakes otherwise they will just start to rebel. My mother was also very strict with my older sister and she started to rebel when she was 15 that is probably why my mom was a little bit easier on me. Don't listen to these posters they probably wont let their kids leave the house without an armed guard.

You might be a bit young. What if the bottle spins to a boy you don't like or feel icky kissing - do you have the guts to refuse in front of everyone there? What if the boy tries to tongue-kiss you and you're not ready for it?
It requires a lot of maturity, self-knowledge, and poise (or a complete lack thereof) to play this game well. You have to know exactly what - and who - you're comfortable with, and not be susceptible to the high level of peer pressure inherent in the game. This is extremely difficult at such a transistional age.
And if you haven't kissed before, you really don't want your first kiss to be so public.

Ask your mom to talk to your friend's mom, and maybe if the spin-the-bottle game gets cancelled, you can attend the party.

yes, your mother is concerned that this "spin the bottle" could get out of hand. it was a game years ago long before your mother was born ..so she knows about "spin the bottle"

i would think that any party for a 14 year old should have some adult supervision...but if not then no..you should not attend...and for good reasons..ask your mother...she knows best

Well, I guess the question is, will your friend's parents be there? if they are, just let your mom know that there will be parental supervision, and that they probably won't play anyway because the parents will be there. If there aren't parents around (at least in the vicinity), I'm not exactlty sure why this 14 year old is allowed to have the party.

Spin the bottle is kinda childish to me so i think on an adults level and reason it this way! When you spin the bottle you are taking a chance (Russian Rulet) Either you are it or not! Teen Level, you want to make out with this hot guy and cross your fingers and hope the bottle hits both of you! Adult, make out with him you are risking getting pregnant, getting a STD, or AIDS!! It is not a game to be playing at any level!!

Spin the bottle involves kissing, groping, and flashing your bare skin. If your mom says you're too young to do that at 14, you have to respect her wishes.

If your mom says NO, then NO!

Your mom isn't being over protective like one girl says! She loves you and cares for you! She also wants you to respect yourself, unlike the girl who answered you bragging she's kissed alot of guys! ( she'll probably be the high school slut).

Anyways, you have plenty of years ahead of you honey to be playing girl/boy games at parties.
