I am a single mother of a 3 year old. I live in New Orleans Louisiana. I have been told that none of the Housing Assistance programs are accepting new applicants due to the after affects of Hurricane Katrina. I have been turned down for Child Care Assistance and Food Stamps... but I barely scrape by after paying for daycare. I live with my parents at the moment, but they are not so happy about my son and myself staying here. They want us out. I have no place to go. What other assistance programs are out there? Please help me. I don't know what to do.

you have to appeal the food stamp decision I'm guessing they declined them because you live with your parents and they go by there income.. Have your parents write up something saying you pay rent to them and your food is prepared separately if they decline you even after this you need to find a hiring up to talk to I am friends with a lady who is over the food stamp dept in my parish I live in Louisiana also they give those things out like candy.. also they will pay your daycare fees and pay your gas for you going to work unless you make a lot of money. I know this as fact. SO to recap.. Go back to the food stamp office Appeal the decision then file for CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (CCAP) this will pay for your daycare also it should pay for gas money for you to go to and from work..this website will give you the details forms to download and print and the office address where to go to http://www.dss.state.la.us/departments/ofs/Child_Care_Assistance_Program.html#DoIqualifyforchildcare don't give up until you get all the support you need ok.. also about housing assistance they do stop accepting applications sometimes but you can go to another parish and apply if its not to far from where u need to live check into that by looking up housing assistance in the phone book.

You need to go to social services and apply for child-support and they will have the wages of the father of your child garnished out of his pay each week.
Find a cheap trailor or house in the country, or answer them ads in the newspaper, where elderly would like for u to live with them (elderly may have a basement apartment)
there has got to be some kind of way, at least you do have parents, alot of single mothers have noone whatsoever and end up at homeless shelters.
Go back to Social Services and apply for everything u can get , even section 8 emergency.
U can do it if u set your mind to it.

Good Luck.....

Have you checked into getting assistance to help you pay for child care? This site seems pretty informative:
