in august my husband and i moved in with my parents to save for a downpayment on a house. (our goal is to be out by next august) we needed to pay some of our bills down/off so my parents won't let us pay them rent--we clean the house, do yard work at our house and my grandma's...my husband is tutoring my dad in math for a class he's taking---so we earn our room and board. do you think it would be a nice gesture to get them a gift card for the grocery store for christmas? if so for how much? if not---any other ideas?

I sent mass emails telling everyone nicely. I don't want to work on any computers. Still people ask and bother me about it and try to make me feel guilty for not wanting to work on or look at their computers. PLEASE HELP

Im 20 years old and the youngest of 4. im originally from louisiana but i moved out of state to california 2 years ago and now im back to visit for the holidays. well to start off, my sister thats 2 years older than me got a 500 dollar sleigh bed for her birthday, since i was outta state, she ordered me a cake over the phone for me to pick up, nothing wrong with that, (material things really dont matter) well for christmas, my sister got a laptop, new camera, new phone, new tv, things like that,.....me? i got a mp3 player, again i live outta state, well since im here, my other sister started talking about everything that everyone got, and i was like wow must be nice (being sarcastic) and my mom said well if you were here for your birthday and christmas you would get nice things to? what the hell is this? nothing else matters to me, i dont care who gets what or how much money or how nice. its the fact that my mom made that comment. it really hurt, am i just being selfish tho??

MIL=Hiddious woman, socially retarded, inability to behave in public. That being said, I have put up with this woman for 5 years, each encounter with her is worse than the last. My fiance is her only child left (2 others have passed). Until recently I have delt with the bull s**t parade that follows her everywhere she goes, last month a situation arose that prompted me to discontinue my association with his family. (yes, she wins in this scenario) We had a conversation in which I explained my feelings, and realize that I place him in an impossible siutation when I don't get along with his mother, and we agreed that I would remove myself from interaction with her. However, this arrangement will cause issues during the holidays. He shouldn't have to choose which woman he wants to spend the holidays with, and he is all she has. How do I get through the seasons festivities with out making him miserable, but keep from slapping this woman and feeling hateful ruining my holiday? HELP

Child is 8 years old and mother insists that father not sleep with his daughter when he gets her for the weekend but he is still doing it. She has her own room and own bed but still he lets her sleep with him and they are the only two in his home. What can mother do to stop this. Parents are divorced and mother has remarried. Step father doesn't approve of this situation either but doesn't know how to stop it.

My father was abusive growing up. He was an alcolholic and beat my mother and me. Growing up I swore I would never end up like my father. He was a bastard and I hated him. Now I'm married with a 3 year old daughter. Our marriage is on the rocks right now. We have a hard time paying bills, ect, and it makes our marriage more stressful. I was drinking alcolhol watching the football game a couple nights ago when my wife walked in angry. She was mad that I was relaxing after a long days work and that I wasn't taking care of our daughter. (Wife works till 2pm, picks up daughter from daycare, cleans house, ect.) she was yelling at me and it pissed me off, i work hard to pay for our home, bills, clothes, ect, and I was feeling unappreciated. Well....I slapped her. I feel bad, and humiliated. I can't look at myself and feel good. I'm turning into my father. My wife took my daughter and drove to her parents to stay the night. She said she won't come home. What can i do?

My MIL is essentailly a nice woman but very meddling..... First of all, my husband and I were recently married. He was married before (ten years ago) and has a thirteen year old daughter. Things were going smoothly at first as we were all transitioning into our new roles and new lives, then the MIL struck. BTW- we live on the same street- I know we need to move. Since the step daughter was very little and my husband worked a shift work, my MIL usually kept the stepdaughter and she spent the night there. Occaisionally she would spend the night with us. Now, she doesn't spend any time here at our house at all. MIL says that I am too young to be her step parent (to the daughter) and discredits me and her own son. She constantly calls the shots for the girl not even allowing her own son to step in and make decisions. HE TRIES- honestly....she overides him everytime. I think that he is afraid to confront his own mother and even his own daughter. Please help...advice anyone?

my cuzin was kicked out she has many places to stay.. i keep tell her to stay with me...she comes over then leaves saying she coming back never comes back..hr step-dad told her to get out and her mom a agreed and she left now they want her to come home but she dosent what to.. and i keep sayin i dont know were she at i just seen her at school..wat should i tell her..she can just be runnin the streets.??/

My father in law is 81 years old and is terminally ill. I never cared for the man. Thus far in my 27 years marriage this man has done nothing but be a nusence. He doesn't care for me, never has, never will. He even tried to prevent my husband from marrying me. He thinks I'm not good enough to be his daughter in law just because I was born into a poor family which at one point was homeless. He thinks like I'm low class and treats me that way. During family gatherings, birthdays, ect, he always expected me to be the kind "servent"; that I should wait one him and his family hand and foot. He also treats my kids horribly; because I'm their mother. As well he is constantly aruging with my husband about the state of MY marriage. Anyway, problem is, my father in law needs a nurse, and he refuses to go to a nursing home. Since I'm a stay at home mother.....the family expects me to do it! I really do not want to take care of that irritable man. Ideas, thoughts, please!

I just had to encourage a thirteen yr old gurl if her mom ain't doin that SOMETHING IS WRONG! We got to encourage our young folk! I'M 23! I was lucky enough to have people in my life encouraging me during My tween and teen yrs. which were rough!We gotta start encouraging our young people today or they may not live to see tomorrow!Wake up world our young people are dying by our own hand!

We haven't so much as spoken to each other & I'm still very mad at her.

She hasn't acknowledged anything important I've done lately even though she's known about it.

I don't want to be childish but half of me wants to stand by my principles & part of me at least wants to send her a card because after all, she is my mother.

What do you think?

She is upset that she can't afford stuff for me and her 2 grandchildren. She acts okay sometimes, but I can tell she's not. I allready told her that it is just a present and that's not what Christmas is about anyway, but it did'nt seem to help much. My dad is taking x-tra days to go to work and my 15th B-day is 3 days after Christmas. Please help me help my mom.

well my parents r alway fighting and i always get in the middle of it somehow.then my dad curses about my mom my brother and me. and if my mom leaves light on in the bathroom he will get really mad and then something starts. and if he does that and we tell him that he left the light or tv on then he will get mad at us for telling him. and if someone is telling him something he doesnt want to hear he tells them to shut up or starts yelling. and if he does that to us and we tell him to shut up or we yell he will either ground me and yell at my mom and my brother. and then the next day he comes home from work he acts like nothing has happend. i cant take it what should i do??!!

I remember iceskating but I kept falling over, a beautiful lady in a skating outfit came up behind me and picked me up, she skated with me around the rink, it felt like I was dreaming. No I never did take up the sport. It's not big in country Australia. Lol

my 11 year old dog; a great pet, friend & family member doesn't have much longer. & will either pass on by himself, or will be put to sleep by the time i get home for winter break.
this seriously upsets me. & after just reading an email from my dad about his condition, I'm in even more of a wreck! but i still have work/class to contend with for a few more weeks (not including the time off i have for thanksgiving next week). but I'm unsure if i can take all the BS I'm constantly surrounded by. what advise do any of you have?

I am invited to thanksgiving day dinners or spend x-mas day with friends, but I sit back holding in tears, because it hurts so much to see how familys come together and are happy and close, and I wish that I had that. Now that I have childern of my own, I celerbrite it with them, but its not the same, what can I do to forget the passed and move on? By the way my mother should have never had kids.

I have not talked to nor seen my dad for almost two years (for my sister it has been longer). My mother died when I was 22, my dad came out a couple months later, blah blah blah... he has been living with his partner for the past 7 years. I am about to graduate college (I am 31, kind of old, but never to late) and I am having a party. I want my dad to be there, it is a mile stone in my life, yet the reason we dont talk is because he said some harsh things about me to one of my aunts about being a failure in school and the odds of me every graduating are slim to none. As much as I want to say this is a slap in the face for him, I dont want to be like that because this is my dad, I just think he is being influnced by his partner (my dad is a bit of a lemming). I am proud of my school success and want my family and friends to celebrate it, should I contact him, or just blow it off?
