I've know for several months that my daughter in moving to FL which is atleast 16 hrs. away to go to college for her PHD; her oldest child is the light of my life (my 1st grandchild) we've spend alot of time together. Now that the time is getting clooser for them to move it is starting to really lay heavy on my heart. I know that since she is the oldest of 3, she does alot of the housework and gets less attention than the other 2 boys who have a different father. My daughter and him live together. When she is with me which is getting to be less often since they are moving soon; she tells me things that break my heart and I feel that she is very unhappy with the ways she gets punished and treated. She feels left out since her brothers are 3 and 3 months. She has to share a bedroom with the 3 yr. old and can't play with her dolls and toys when she want too because of him and they stay in the closet alot. Am I being too selfish to wish she could live with me which is impossible?

Today, while driving my sisters car, I noticed a brown paper bag next to the passenger seat. When I opened it up, I found a bunch of mushrooms. I don't know if they were the drug kind, but why would she have mushrooms in her car? Shes 18, so its not like she needed them for food. And what really doesnt make sense to me is that my sister and her friends don't do any drugs -- except for one who she doesnt like. And she wants do join the CIA, so she refuses to do drugs! So I'm really not sure what the whole deal is, but I'm afraid to confront her about it if they are drugs and I dont know how I would bring it up to my parents. Any suggestions?

My daughter walked into my bedroom yesterday after I got off work. I am a nurse and had to work late. She was talking to me on the bed, and I needed to change clothes but she would not leave. I rarely wear underwear and my daughter did not know that, and I was wearing my scrubs. I needed to change so I just stripped out of my scrubs, and changed into some jeans and a t-shirt. I thought I guess she is old enough to know now. Well she found out. She said "Mom, you are not wearing underwear". I told her, "I never do. It is more comfortable without them for me." It was a little embarrassing to say the least because it was also the first time she had seen me naked. When she was very young, I could walk around the house naked and did not have to be so cautious. Now it is just us girls around the house. She said that she might try going without underwear, too. I told her that it is her decision, and that she could try it. Am I wrong for letting this happen and being more open?

He is angry and won't talk to me because I "kicked out" an abusive freeloader after six months of Hell. I did what I did for my own sanity, but my son thinks it was wrong. Now, how do I "win back" my son, or should I just accept his "angry silence". He wouldn't even listen to my side of the story which is not fair to me.

I want to bridge this gap between us. 8 yrs ago my parents paid for a truck from a friend, left it sit behind his garage, the friend's son borrowed a part off of it in an emergency, before it could be replace my dad found out about this "theft" and demanded the part be replaced or his money be returned. There was this huge arguement about storage fees while it sat behind the garage and lots of bad words said. 3 years ago I began dating the son, who happened to be an old high school sweetheart. I got pregnant, my dad stopped talking to me, my boyfriend proposed and we are now married. He did not attend my wedding, and that hurt. He has said that my youngest son is not his grandchild but continues to love my oldest two from a previous marriage, and this hurts! I know I let him down and it seems like I have taken "sides" with this family, I still love my father and I want him to at least accept my child if not my husband too. What do I say to him after we have hurt each other so badly?

Does anyone else hate the holidays because it means seeing your "family". It's probably mean to say but I reallly hate seeing my family because a) i was adopted and don't feel like they are my real family and b) my family has: drunks, pervs, gang members, people that were in prison. Ok, to be fair their are some nice people too but not many. I don't really have anything to talk about with them, even my own sister because she is 18 years older than me.

We're stuck here and could use any advice out there. He is almost 15 and has been seeing this girl who messes with his head and treats him poorly. My instinct is to keep them separated but I fear that will backfire. I try to have their hang out time around my house but that's not really working (what am I doing??). I hate to see her hurting him. I've tried to talk to her mother but she is as flighty as they come. I know it sounds unreasonable, but I want this girl GONE. Anyone been through this?

MY 42 YEAR OLD SON MOVED BACK INTO HOUSE WITH ME AFTER THE THIRD MARRIAGE BUSTUP. HE SLAMS DOORS, HOLLERS AT ME AND RECENTLY, HE LEFT HIS YAHOO MESSENGER ON BUT IT'S MY COMPUTER. HIS MESSAGE ARCHIVES CAME UP WHEN I SIGNED ON. I THOUGHT IT WAS MINE AND DIDN'T MEAN TO READ IT. RIGHT AWAY I SAW HE WAS TALKING ABOUT ME TO HIS SECOND EX. HE TOLD HER LIES ABOUT MY MARRIAGES...SAID I HAD BEEN MARRIED 11 TIMES. I HAVE BEEN MARRIED 5 TIMES BUT I ALWAYS TRIED TO MAKE MY CHILDREN'S LIVES AS GOOD AS I COULD...ALWAYS TOOK UP FOR THEM AND WENT AGAINST MY HUSBANDS FOR MY KIDS SAKES.
TOO, HE SAID SOME VERY BAD THINGS ABOUT ME AND EVEN HIS GRANDMOTHER TO HIS EX AND WAS MEAN-MOUTHING MY LITTLE DOGS WHICH HE HATES. HE REMINDS ME OF HIS DADDY WHO ABUSED ME. I WAS EVEN RAPED BY HIS DAD SEVERAL TIMES.
SHOULD I CONFOUNT MY SON AND TELL HIM HOW HIS DAd treated me? Should I make him move or keep putting up with his abuse?
I am 65 years old.

I got married in March and my husband is taking care of my daughter from prev. relationship. Her biological father isn't around much. He calls 2-3 times a month, no child support, doesn't see her. My daughter doesn't want to see him (her decision) I don't bad mouth her father. Recently she has been asking to have her last name changed to mine and her step dad's last name. I tried to explain what would happen if she did and she says that she still wants her name changed. I really think she is too young to make this kind of decision, but she acts like she really, really wants it. I don't know what to do, I know her father isn't going to just roll over, he'll fight me on this. My husband is the only father figure in her life and he supports us and he wants to legally adopt her. So my question is, is my daughter too young to decide? And if I do this, how do I go about telling her father?

Before speaking of my problem, let me note a few things about me. I'm 16, and I'm from Georgia. My parents live separately, and are in "negative" relationships with each other, with other side always squeezing the other side. I grew up in Moscow, being absolutely in no contact with teens from Georgia, most of my classmates were teens from Africa/Russia/Turkey. 1 year ago, my father moved back to Georgia, and took all of us with him (since he is supporting our family, my mother couldn't insist on the stay). Now, my problem is that he wants me to stay in Georgia, he is already tightly established, with a residence on the outskirts of the town. However, I don't want to stay here, the place is a nuthole, compared to Moscow it's a dumpsite. I'm finishing school next year, however my father doesnt support me leaving this country. I have no friends here and he knows that. He knows how well I socialise with foreigners, however here I cant talk to anyone. I cant take this anymore.

My husband does not speak to his parents and hasn't for about 2 years. His family feels gifts are "owed" to children until they are 18. We feel that while his parents know nothing about our young son, we shouldn't accept gifts. Should we send them back or ask them to stop?
