Family - October 2006

Gee life was easier in the 70's when I was a teenager. We had a telephone in our house and that was it. No foxtel, computers mobiles, DVD's CD's etc. Each family had a car, not several. Only some Mums went out to work and the cost of living was way below now. If we wanted to go somewhere, we walked or caught public transport. We ate vegetables and were much thinner.
Now, I have to ask my kids for help, rather than them ask me. They get paid, but it's not enough to pay for their mobile phone bill, entertainment, board etc. They can't save.
OK, this is not a question, it's a big reminiscent whinge. If you feel the same, tell me about it

A major roadblock in gays and lesbians getting the right to marry is the implication that they'll be granted full rights to raise children, but a great deal of people who are against gay marraige (who are wise enough to exclude religious implications, since no one cares about what God thinks anymore these days) are afraid that gays who raise children will raise them homosexual.

Has anyone yet thought of conducting an experiment where exceptionally young foster children are given into custody of gay, lesbian, and straight parents and their behavior and development is carefully monitored over the course of their lives? It's already upsetting to enough people that gays come out of straight homes, but don't we need to carefully study which household brings about which sexuality? If the results of the experiment follow no recognizable pattern, then it would be proven that sexuality of the children is NOT a result of the sexuality of the parents, and gays could be allowed to have kids.

My grandma is coming down from Vegas for a business trip and she want to see me and my brother...we use to live with her and when we moved back with our mom, we didnt really leave on really good terms...now im stuck having to see her on sunday cuz my brother called her...grr...and he made the plans and he didnt want to go alone, so of course im gonna go with him, but i dont want to.

Seeing her would dig up parts of the past that should be left buried...what to do what to do!!!! im desperate!!!!

i have four kids , the oldest three i have no bother with but the youngest is a nightmare. he is 20mths old, he kicks, hits, bites and generally causes havoc. i have tried ignoring him, slapping him(not hard though which my husband says is the problem)putting him in time out(which he just ignores anyway and goes at whatever he wants) he is starting to do this to other children as well as adults. i need help.

The situation is that my girlfriend is 8 months pregnant....I was layed off on my job and she works part time rent was due last week and we can't pay the electric bill I'm actually suprised my internet still works I feel so bad that I can't give her what she needs I feel like the biggest loser in the world and I can't even sleep anymore the baby will be here soon and all this happening is taking away from the joy and love I should be feeling so now I'm pushing away from her because of my own **** it's almost to much to take I just wish I could find work what kind of man am I that can't provide for his family....I'm only 25 and I'm just at a low point does anyone have any advice for me at all anything will help plz

36 hours and counting until my wedding. I haven't slept but 6 hours in the last 48 and I am wired. I lay down and my head fills with list of things that need done or have been done. I have bi-polar so Manic Episodes are nothing new. I have been taking my medication regularly and the correct doses. I have called my doctor and it seems she is on vacation for 2 weeks and her replacement want to me to come in and change my medication around. I don't want to increase my meds or try new meds so close ot the wedding due to my body's reaction. BUT I NEED TO SLEEP. Any ideas ... I know that after the wedding this will pass. I have been able to get things done having them I am like the energerizer bunny I keep going and going and going .. I know I am not having doubts or cold feet. I really love him and he loves me. After 4 years ya just know these things .. I know it has something ot due with my family's lack of particapation and lack of support. They like him they just don't like me.. HELP

Gets upset with me for eating dessert after dinner? She says "you already ate enough at dinner you don't need anymore". I didn't even have a big dinner. Every time she see's me eat anything she looks at it, and either makes some comment about how I'm eating too much or how fattening it is. One time i was making a salad and she said i better not eat anymore than that for lunch. I am not fat, about 5'8'', 140lbs, and i run about 5 miles every day plus go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week. I have a history of eating disorders, and I think my grandmother knows it, but is in denial about it because she practically started it. She started telling me i was fat at 16 years old. She raised me, so we know eachother quite well.
I sometimes fly off the handle when she makes a remark. I feel bad because she is 86, and she tells me how aweful i act towards her and how i have no respect for elders. But what i am suppose to do when she perpetuates the problems that i have with food?

Until recently, my father's family feuded so much that they couldnt be in the same room. After I was diagnosised with cancer....it was a wakeup call to them. I wish things had been better sooner. We rarely had family get togethers when Grandma was alive. My kids and I hardly know most of the cousins that didnt live locally. I have made an effort to get to know them and I really enjoy their company...but all the years of hard feelings have taken their toll and no one wants to participate in family reunions!

Lately I've been feeling really bad about my mom losing her father a couple weeks ago (she also lose her mother less a year ago). So it has been difficult to talk to her lately. So I would like to know what I can talk about with her?

I moved away from state she live in two months ago. My sis and half bro live with her and her husband. However I feel responsible as oldest child to help my mom out some.

Should I try talk to her about a girl I am sorta of seeing? Should I tell her about my boxing match even though she hate it? What should I try talk about with her? I would really like to talk about something that make my mom feel a bit better.
