Gee life was easier in the 70's when I was a teenager. We had a telephone in our house and that was it. No foxtel, computers mobiles, DVD's CD's etc. Each family had a car, not several. Only some Mums went out to work and the cost of living was way below now. If we wanted to go somewhere, we walked or caught public transport. We ate vegetables and were much thinner.
Now, I have to ask my kids for help, rather than them ask me. They get paid, but it's not enough to pay for their mobile phone bill, entertainment, board etc. They can't save.
OK, this is not a question, it's a big reminiscent whinge. If you feel the same, tell me about it

Troppo, will you please marry one of my daughters. To all the others who have replied so far, thanks. I'm sorry for the one who was drafted and I'm amused by the moron who has to comment on ppl's comments rather than questions. Get a life dude

I think I know what you're saying. There's a lot to be said for keeping it simple. In comparison to other families, mine is pretty basic. We don't have a video game system, we're phasing out our cell phones... I stay home with the kids and cook and clean. The way I see it, we only get one chance at life and I'd rather enjoy my family than stress over bills and have everyone alienated within their own techno bubble. A fun night for us is bouncing on the trampoline!
As far as the seventies-- I was born in 71, and I miss those tall glass bottles of soda and sitting wherever I liked--even the floorboards-- in my Mom's big boat of a car. My cousins and I were pretty groovy on our banana seat bikes with streamers on the handlebars and in our ponytails! Yeah- those were the days! JJ from Good Times, the Fonz... eating Susie Q's and playing Barbies... I need to call my cousins!

Times sure have changed . Istill have no cell phone & I think with the more stuff like that you have the more it cost to live. I use my carcen lamps & like to spend as little as I have to. I live alone so I only have to watch tv when Grandkids come over. I enjoy outdoors to a movie or puter any day. And it dosent cost me a thing. If kids would keep the lights off & not turn everything on when they walk into aroom , & leave it all on . The Commers bill would go down. I,am 4 Horse & buggy days.

If you thought it was good in the 70's roll back to the 50's. The family ate dinner together with no TV. I got to play with dolls till I was 14. No body was trying to get in my pants. There was less History to learn. You could use your imagination listening to the radio and the hot toy was the HOLLA-HOOP for 2 bucks. Talk about a toy that kept the weight off.

I was born in 71 and I remember the late 70's and 80's and it was great. A smack on the behind was not a court case, a cell phone was unheard of and gas prices were .78 a gallon and mom and dad used to complain...I never had to be told to do anything, I was expected to do it and I never got paid money, I got shelter, food, love, hugs, toys, and candy...why can't we go back???

Sound like your really saying life as an adult is alot harder. By what you wrote you are sort of saying teenagers have it easier.
We let them have everything because we didn't have it when we were teenagers. We all made it easier for them.
I was a teenager 1969 and I had to worry about being drafted and having to go fight and having the chance of being killed. Don't really think that was easier.

Well, I have to dismiss the comment the Healthier times, those were the days when it was okay to eat Lard sandwiches and the times of war and gas shortages, hostage taking ( somethings never go out of style). This decade has it's new but just as bad times, just different generations.

They were certainly healthier times. People got a lot more excercise and kids were looked after, most not left to be brought up by babysitters. A lot less worries.

You know it amazing me how many people log on to post a question and then NEVER ASK A QUESTION!!!!! but they think that by putting a ??? at the end of a sentence it magically becomes a question. There should be 3 sections on Yahoo.. Questions, Answers and I just want to make a statment...

Teenagers are spoiled these days and the parents are partly to blame. They do not make them do anything they just hand them some money to get them out of their way.
