Life is a risk. You should be concerned with providing a loving home, good education, college savings and life insurance.
Your wife can get an "amnio exam" at around week 16 to 18 to test for genetic problems. Around week 22 you can get a detailed (level 2) ultrasound to check for physical problems.
Many of the problems are hereditary. If there are problems in your family then ask your doctor the odds of passing them to your children.

Everyone was love to have beautiful perfectly healthy baby. However you just have to have faith. If you are a clean person, and your wife or girlfriend is a clean person. (Smoke Free, Drug Free, Alcohol Free, STD Free). Hopefully that would be enough to have a healthy child. However there is a factor that the baby just might be 100% normal.
If you let this be factor. Then decide not to have children. You will never know the outcome. Maybe you should consider the positive side of being a loving, and caring DADDY. Regardless.
After all NO ONE is guaranteed anything in life. There is a risk from day one, and each day after that.

yes, other people worry about this too.
But, life is inherently risky, and you can't avoid it all. You could get hit by a bus. Or killed in a Tsunami.
If you are really scared, perhaps there are other things you are scared about... ? If you are not ready, it is likely for other reasons. The odds of a problem with your child are quite low.

Most people worry about that.
I worried any children I might have could turn out to be the liars, punks and tattlers that my own 5 brothers were.
I didn't have anything to worry about -- I never had children.

Everybody goes through the "What Ifs" before having children. Relax and accept what God gives you.

Everyone worries about it. It's what will make you a great parent some day.
