Well, First off. My mom has lived with her mother her entire life. me and my sister were raised in the house with mom and grandma but grandma was always sole parent while my mom acted like a child, gambling, spending all her money on toys etc and neglecting the both of us. My grandma has taken care of her like she is still a 15 yr old child. Grandma is pushing 90 now and me and my sister both know it's only a matter of time before we lose her. The question is, since my mom is "unable" to take care of herself, pay her rent, etc. where should me and my sister's responsibilities lie with her. I live out of state and my sister lives about 30 minutes away from them. Neither one of us will feel comfortable allowing mom to live with us. I think this is what mom feels will happen when grandma passes. She always thinks somebody will take care of her. Do we leave her out in the cold or what?

How a father obtains legal custody of a child

I married after losing my house in Katrina - I have known my husband for over 20 years. I have 3 children from a previous marriage and have been divorced for over 6 years. Their father has made no attempt to contact us in 5 years. My husband always acted like their "friend" in the past and that was acceptable because we werent married. Now he is their "dad" and the oldest calls him Sam (she is 16) the middle calls him daddy and they have a great relationship (she is 11) and the youngest calls him Mr. Sam (he is 8) but they are close - he has always known him as Mr Sam and doesnt really like change much. We had a baby 3 weeks ago. My husband seems to be pulling away from my children and has had way less patience with them, It is harder on my 11 yr old who wants more than anything in this world to have a daddy. This is taking a toll on me and I am feeling torn and sick over it, I love him, but these are my kids and they already lost one dad - he doesnt see what he is doing. HELP!

Is the action of an abusive parent a result of his/her previous upbringing / environment and thus shouldn't be held completely accountable for his/her actions, or shoud they bear full responsibility for the way they treat their children because they should've known better.

I have several siblings in various states (between ages 36-16 years). They all seem to resent me. When I had called or emailed them they act all cold and distant. They do not respond to my emails or keep me up to date with their lives or even changes of address and phone numbers. I always hear things second hand from my parents.

When my birthdays came around they never acknowledge it, they were not at my wedding and haven't done anything for major holidays. However I have called them on their birthdays, attended their weddings and birth of thier children and try to keep them up to date. It's been years and I've slowly stopped contacting them because they have not acknowlege me.

I am very close with my parents, in-laws, my best friends and co-workers. I have great relationships and a wonderful life. But my sibilings ignore me. My mother is getting remarried and I'm closer to my soon to be step-siblings than my actual sibilings. Any suggestions on how to get over this resentment?

I feel like there would be a lot of uncomfortabel questions if I told them the truth: "why were you holding fifi out of the attic window anyway?" or "does this have anything to do with him chewing up your favorite shoes yesterday?" etcetera. I don't want to disillusion them about me since I'm their dad, so wouldn't it be best for everyone if I tell them that the dumb dog just ran away and got lost?

i only know his first name, the country where he was born, the city he lives in now (neither is my country), his job, his age, and I have two pictures of us together...i met him at a festival, we became friends and i would like to know if he's still alive, and maybe just keep in touch with him...it would be really important for me, but I don't want to seem annoying and do stupid things...any ideas?

My 12 year old sister lives with my mom, he dad died when she was 1, my mom is going to jail here shortly and I would like to take my sister in. In order to put her in school I heard I need to be her legal guardian. How do I go about this and does our mom have to give consent, if she does not give consent will my sister be sent to foster care, even if she has family members that are alive??

My father abused me for years and child and famiy services came. I wouldnt tell then any thing that my father did, and I know that was the wrong thing to do. I was then hospitalized in a mental hospital and found out that i suffer from depression and bi-polar disorder. WHile i was there i told them about what my father does to me. THey confronted him about it and he denied it. so they didnt believe me!! (this was years later) I was stuck with him after I got out of the hospital and the abuse continued. I threatened suicide again and was again hosptialized. I continues trying to tell them and they insisted I was making it up and crazy! Finally I got to the age where I could deciede rather to move in with mom or dad. Of course i chose mom. Dad threatened me! SO i didnt. then i decided to move in with mom and didnt let my dad scare me. when i was visiting my mom i just decided not to return. Now my dad hates me. He is now fallinginto a deep depression. Its my falt did i do da right thing?

You are 16 and your sister is 14. She is constantly nasty and mean to you while you are always nice and generous to her. She yells at you that you are always home and she doesn’t have privacy. You two share a room and sleep on a bunk bed together. She says that she doesn’t like to live with you and ask you “Can you not live here and not be at home all the time. It is very annoying.” It hurts you because you love her and wish that she would appreciate you. You tell her to stop but she don’t. You tell your parents and they say they know that your sister have been very nasty lately and they know that you are a very nice sister and you love her. They told your sister about that and she says that she is not nasty and instead you are nasty. Afterwards, your parents walk away. They can’t seem to help you. Why are sisters and parents that way? It is not fair. It seems that we suffer from unfairness due to our sister’s nasty attitude and it is not our fault.

I have a 9 year old and a 7 year old, both girls. I want to take them out of day care and let them ride the school bus home. I am usually home, but if something happened and I was unable to be here, would it be OK for them to stay by themselves for an hour or so?

I need an idea of what to send her and her imediate family until I can go visit this weekend. She has a husband, two grown children, and two grandsons (elementary school age). I was thinking about having a dinner sent, but I could use more ideas since this is the first time that a close family member has passed away in years.
