I feel like there would be a lot of uncomfortabel questions if I told them the truth: "why were you holding fifi out of the attic window anyway?" or "does this have anything to do with him chewing up your favorite shoes yesterday?" etcetera. I don't want to disillusion them about me since I'm their dad, so wouldn't it be best for everyone if I tell them that the dumb dog just ran away and got lost?

This sounds like a joke. Please, I have two small dogs and never on one occasion was their a time that they were held out a window. It sounds to me if this question is really true that you didn't like the dog. If their is ever anothertime that you wantto get rid of a pet, find a different way. usually towns have pounds or poodles are a indemand breed of dog, place a ad in the paper for free dog.

u can't just "accidentally drop" a dog out the window, u should tell them the truth, because what u did was very irresponsible and you should have to deal with the consequences.

I dunno, maybe you shoulda dived headfirst with Fifi.
I'm not an animal rights activist, but neither am I going to think that being cruel to animals is funny.
If you really wanted to put the thing "to sleep", there would be a lot better ways than that so I think you're just full of it.
Whatever you do, lying to your kids will catch up with you.
