I mean not keyloggers so they can get into your computer, just viruses plain and simple.

i recently was infected with some adware and i dont know how to get rid of it. I have tried using 3 different kinds of spyware sweepers (Webroot spy sweeper, AVG, and windows defender), but whenever the sweep gets close to finishing my computer shuts down. Also in the task bar by the clock there is a icon that brings up a bubble that says "System Alert! system has detected a number of active spyware applications that may impact the performance of your computer. Click the icon to get rid of unwanted spyware by downloading an up-to-date antispyware solution."

it says that windows has detected spyware infection and it recomends that i click on it to download appropiate antispyware software.

in my experience this always opens up a can of worms and generally buggers the computer up. does anyone know of any free antispyware removal programs that will deal with this?

I've had a new laptop for a month. I've successfully uninstalled the free Norton trial and installed AVG free, but I can't get zonealarm or ad-aware to download.
zonealarm says "server not responding" and can't find the msi patch. (whatever that is)
ad-aware looks like it is downloading, but the % of download never gets higher than about 35%.
I also can't download any game trials.
My computer is running on Windows XP for now until I can get all this stuff organised and then I'll install firefox.
Please help!

I suspect they are trying to sell me their antivirus program for $50. They claim that they found 3 security risks including 1 medium risk item. I ran AVG 7.5 and Spybot and found no problems. My questions: Should I be worried? if so, what action should I take?

Does anyone know of anything that I can protect my PIN numbers and passwords for my banking websites? I don't feel real comfortable writing them down on a piece of paper. I would like to keep these on my computer in a file that is secure and can't be hacked into. This will allow me to keep track of all my PIN's and online passwords.

I recently installed zone alarm onto my desktop, I'm using XP, SP2, and it's really slowed down my shut down time. It hangs for ages. Has anyone experience this, if so, is there anything I need to do in the settings to speed up the shutdown time. It used to take appro. 30 seconds, if that, to shutdown before I installed zone alarm.
