I mean not keyloggers so they can get into your computer, just viruses plain and simple.

My theory on this is that it's mostly the antivirus companies themselves that propagate these malicious codes. It's job security! Naturally there are kids out there who were abused children and their way of getting back at society is by writing viruses to attack innocent people. Either way they are all pathetic losers who need to get a life.

bored, steal, and annoy.

Viruses come in different forms, but the most popular is Worms. They turn your machine into a bot. This means that the creator or highest bidder can control your computer to launch DOS attacks on web servers.

If you use Windows you are likely to get a virus (who am i kidding you will get a virus)

If you are running MAC you will OK. Not a lot of viruses created for Macs

If you are using Linux.... well still waiting for one that will kill the bird.

Wow, it seems like we all should know the answer to that question by now, but I know that I don't know why.

The only ones who stand to profit from it are people who produce antivirus programs and sell them. It would also be a way to keep consumers constantly updating and buying stuff. If you computer goes down you will have to take it to be repaired, software reinstalled, and new antivirus program installed. Just keeping the dogs chasing their tails

The only other alternative that comes to mind is that there are these evil people out there who like to cause harm to other computer users and get a laugh over causing distruction.

i think its just like people who like taking things apart such as clocks or other electronic devices just to see how they work.its the same thing with viruses, you look at how a program is put together and see if you can alter it,you keep going with it seeing how far you can go until it gets you into trouble.

Because "misery loves company." They are unhappy and can't stand to see anyone happy. Also, they have way too much time on their hands and choose to use it in a negative way instead of positive.
