I suspect they are trying to sell me their antivirus program for $50. They claim that they found 3 security risks including 1 medium risk item. I ran AVG 7.5 and Spybot and found no problems. My questions: Should I be worried? if so, what action should I take?

I take it you do not have Norton on your machine? To my knowledge, Symantec doesn't run unrequested scans and then try to sell their product. I suspect a double-scam by someone else.

Good luck.

First of all... you shouldn't have two different antivirus programs installed on your computer. This can cause both to not work properly.

Second of all... if Norton is on your computer and properly configured then it should be downloading automatic updates and it should have scheduled scans set to kick off occasionally.

The way antivirus programs work is there are two pieces... the scanner engine and the library dat or signature files.
The engine is what you install when you first get the program... the updates are continuously adding virus signatures to the library file (this is how the scaner knows what to look for)... so if one is finding viruses then that's probably the one that's properly updating.

I suggest you remove the second virus scanner from your computer and keep your subscription up to date with the other.

If you suspect your antivirus is not working properly you can do a web based scan from here:
http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/

and then fix your regular scanner. you may have to completely remove it and reinstall it in some cases when a second a/v has been installed... but i suggest you not do this until the viruses are cleaned.

good luck.

The only way Norton can scan your computer is if you go to their website and click on the free scan.
It sounds to me like spyware was unknowingly downloaded from the background. You need to clean up your computer.
Go to the AVG website (www.grisoft.com or www.download.com) and get the free antispyware. Also, make sure you have a good firewall on your computer. www.download.com or www. komando.com. Also, make sure your po-up blocker is working.
Tools, Pop-up blocker, Turn Pop-up blocker on. Also, go to Start, All Programs, see if Norton Antivirus is listed. If it is and gives you the option to uninstall it there, then do that. Otherwise, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, scroll to Norton Antivirus and click on Change/Remove and remove it. It that doesn't do it, go to the Norton website and use their uninstall program to remove it.
Norton, to the best of my knowledge, does not just do any scans without your consent.

If you do not have Norton Antivirus installed, and did not ask for a scan, I would be concerned. As far as I know, Symantec does not operate that way. If your existing tools find nothing, and your computer seems to run OK, I would not worry.

Most all computers have bugs and spam but Norton runs checks because during installation it asks if you want it to do it every day or every other or every week etc. and at what time.

Some programs find things that for example AVG won't find, nothing to worry about, if Norton really bugs you just uninstall it.

I hope you're satisfied.

take care of the risks, likely tracking cookies, and no avg does not look for them. then remove nortons unless you want it through add/remove control panel, or go to there web site for removal tool.

no need to worry, just keep updating your antivirus though, try scanning in safe mode where all processes are disabled..their you can really see if there's an infection of some sort..
