I got infected with the win32/swizzor virus and I can't seem to get rid of it with my antivirus software...or adware remover...I have used several....among Mcaffee Antivirus, Panda Antivirus, CA Antivirus (aka) Ez trust adware remover...AVGAS, Spyhunter, and of course the antispy that comes with SBC Yahoo...now ATT Yahoo...I have a DSL connection...and well...it's like a dial-up connection now...anyone have any suggestions?

Running Windows XPSP2
AMD GHZ PROCESSOR
256 MB RAM
60 GB HDD
DVD-+RW

P.S. Microsoft website was not helpful at all either...but perhaps...I was in the wrong place...

My antivirus always pops up and says I have an infection and the says it deleted the files...but if I leave the computer running all night long...it says the same thing over and over again...just different file names...

After the new version of McAfee was installed, I can no longer see WebCams due to firewall. I have all the .EXE programs in Yahoo marked as having full access (in McAfee), but it doesn't matter.

Okay, I was able to get my ping request issue worked out and I am now completely stealthed on the internet. It's like I'm not even there.

So my next question is, do I really need a software firewall? I am currently using Windows own firewall, but many people say that it's not what I should be using.

I have tried other software firewalls, but they get rather annoying. Once I set it up, I don't want to have to mess with it much. It seems like everyday I have to allow firefox to connect or IE. My wife absolutely hates when I have one running other then the Windows one.

The ones I have tried are ZA free/Pro, Comodo and AOLs new one. Everything else I looked at seem very complicated.

So do I really need a software firewall?

My computer became infected and I am receiving popups telling me to install a program called Pest Capture. It sounds a bit fishy to me because I'm almost certain that Pest Capture popups only started after my computer got infected. I am desparate, please give me your valuable opinion.

I ran a security test on my computer and all ports are stealthed, but the computer did send back a ping request. The tester that I used said that this is actually not something that you want.

I checked in the Windows firewall settings, but I don't have the box checked. So I am thinking that it is set-up through my router. My router is a DI-604 E3. I would like to be able to disable the ping requests if at all possible.

These are the only two firewalls on my machine. The router hardware firewall and Windows own Firewall.

If you know someone's IP address you could check if he/she is online -- is this possible and preventable?

I'm currently running Win XP Pro with SP2. I have McAfee antivirus, firewall, and privacy protector. I also use Spybot Searh and destry, Adware SE, and Windows Guardian. My problem started today when I noticed that my antivirus couldn't connect to the internet and I got two error messages saying, "Bad Line" and another with text squares in it. When I open my browerser (IE7), the animations for the ads flicker and stutter. Some pages won't even come up. I ran my Anti-virus, nothing. I ran spy-bot, nothing, I ran adware, nothing. I tried to run Windows blocker and it wouldn't come up giving me an error message saing that there was a bad or missing image file. It gives me that message when I try to bring up other programs like games. Is there a way I can diagnose and fix this with a minimum of fuss?
