On internet there are automated softwares that try to connect to other computers which are connected to internet. For that they try to send a signal on some port of the computer, it is called a Ping. It checks if that port is open or not. If you have a firewall (in your case it may be a norton firewall, it detects the incoming ping request and may inform you about it. You could set your program not to display these alerts, because the firewall stops them anyway.
