Sometimes depend on what firewall you mean, is it the Microsoft Firewall that come with XP or is it downloaded in, stand alone. There should be an icon by the clock in icon tray that you can enable or disable--go to Control Panel and remove it from there and be sure and check to see if the Microsoft one is on so you will at least have that protection.

If you have a firewall running it will show next to your clock. Shut it down if running. Now go to Add and Remove Programs. You can un-install it from there.

Note--I don't think windows firewall shows by your clock.
