Here is a top list of free antispyware

Spybot S&D
Windows Defender
Ad Aware Se Personal
AVG Antispyware 7.5
SuperAntispyware

If you don't have any antispyware protection, use Windows Defender for
real time protection.

If you need a firewall, use ZoneAlarm Firewall free.It is good.I
tested against Norton(paid) and this is better.

Download Spyware Doctor(Trial version) and do a scan to see what is
on your PC and try to remove as many as possible with the free
antispyware i listed.Spyware Doctor WILL produce false positives
to encourage you to buy it but is not a rogue antispyware program.
Clean your PC as much as you can.And run Spyware Doctor's scan again.
If it detects 3 or less, you are clear. Those are false positives.

Go to www.ewido.com for free scan and removal.

Remember, just like antivirus, run only one antispyware's real time protection and
not both at the same time.

Firewall:RUN ONLY ONE
Antivirus:RUN ONLY ONE
Antispyware:As many as you want,but i recommend 2 is enough.But if
you are a paranoid like me,install as many free software as you can.
But it may slow down your PC.

A screen Pops up from nowhere and says You are infected to a virus, and when you click on it it will forward you to a website offering their Anti-Virus. Right? This is a Stupid adware, Last time i got infected to this one and I couldn't do anything about it, Norton Antivirus, Internet Security, non worked. So I installed a fresh windows. I suggest you to install Microsoft Antispy I hope that it works. If not, try searching in your programs and uninstall any unknown or suspicious program (be carefull, some programs have wierd names but they are not adwares, they might be some necessary system programs). These adwares are mostly hidden and you cant simply uninstall them from control panel, if you couldn't find it in Add/Remove Softwares in control panel you should check your C Drive Program Files folder, you will probably find a folder for the adware, if it exists its not hard to find. If it is neither in your Control Panel nor in your Program Files, then it might be hidden somewhere in your Windows folder, and if you delete anything from your Windows folder, most probably your windows would not operate properly. In this case, the only remaining choice is installing a fresh copy of windows. Make sure to use Windows XP Service Pack 2 , download Microsoft Antispy, and keep your windows up to date. Don't open junk websites, do not let your web browser install anything unnecessary unless you know the publisher, I also suggest that you use FireFox as your web browser, it is much more secure comparing to Windows Internet Explorer.

First, you need to understand spywares, download this free ebook: http://pcsecurityworld.blogspot.com/2006/08/free-ebook-on-protecting-your-pc-from.html. If you need another good one, download pc safety ebook from http://pcsecurityworld.com. Second, google pack comes with many good programs. Download that. Use more secure browser like Firefox. Some good antispyware tools are located here: http://pcsecurityworld.com/antispyware.php. Download one or two. Also download ewido anti-malware. To properly clean up spyware, log in using safemode in windows and then run ewido antimalware or other good programs (make sure they have updated spyware definitions). That should solve the problems.

Yes you can do it for free. Get the following programs.

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.

Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

After you get it clean...

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
