A little while ago, I noticed that my task manager wasn't working. It says it had been disabled by the adminstrator (ME!) We don't use it that often and although it was irritating I didn't think too much about it. Now, my firewall is shut down. When I try to make it work, I get this message

Error in NMI : Application is disabled. This application is not allowed to run on this system. This has been disabled by the Administrator

It was just working the other day! Why is this happening? Do I have some hidden virus that got past my anti-virus? How do I get my firewall and my task manager back?

I currently have Norton installed, but it is due for renewal. Should I stick with them, or can I rely solely on the Windows free downloads? Some people recommend McAfee? What advice would you give me?

I've already read about vulnerabilities in IE and Firefox's password managers but what about third party password managers like Password Safe or Roboform? Are they safe? What is the safest way to handle passwords when you have multiple online accounts including banks.

As in peer to peer downloads. Any guaranteed methods for making sure a program has no virus or spyware before installing. Will the scan even pick it up before install. McAfee hasn't really done me any good in preventing viruses and spyware from getting on my computer. Is there any safe way to use peer to peer downloading?

...so one would NEVER have to worry about any security issues online (hack attacks; hackers seeing your info, files; spyware; viruses; worms; etc.) Is there such software that I can buy for my new PC? I don't want to worry about those mundane and unproductive things, as every PC user shouldn't.

Knowledgeable answers only please! Thanks a lot.

I show that I am on secure sites when I multitask in Windows and back to Yahoo Mail and Answers...Im now receiving automated messages that combine information exchanged as "garble".....between several sites.
Please dont send me to a website...I dont know if this is a virus/spam happening exactly or not...I also was in Answers when "Man" was auto answering last weekend.
What can I do to fix the problem? I never link to a website when in Answers, so please advise?

A couple of months ago, my hard-drive decided to die. I went to this guy in town that everyone suggested for cutting deals and taking all kinds of work. He installed a new hard drive, but was completely a creep (asking for all sorts of "favors" for software, which of course I declined.) He continued to ask as he perused my personal things in front of me, commenting all the way.
Just today, I noticed in "My Network Places" that there are all sorts of things I didn't put in there that have his name on them. They have names like "Drivers on Paul-1288", "clone cd images on Paul-1288", "Shared Docs on Paul-1288", "Shared Docs on JEREMIAH'S ROOM", "pete on Paul-1288." Paul is the name of creepy computer repair man, and I certainly have never heard of any of those other names.
Can I delete these files and keep my computer running? Does this mean he have access to my stuff?
Please give me a legit answer, it's really freaking me out. Thank you VERY MUCH.

I set it as the Admin and now I want to remove it...I don't want the password at the start up.
The start of the story was I was wishing to start a database and only allow selected users to be able to enter data and not delete any. So if you can't answer my first question, help me solve how to add users and allow them to ONLY enter & edit selected data. Not delete any.
Thanks!
