Security - December 2006

i don't have enough computer systems informations. I just know my pc has Avast antivirus progam and Spybot search&destroy. Eventhough when i download a file from a friend , my settings says "antivirus check could not finish" What should i do? Is my pc in danger? Everybody says different antivirus program for example one of my friends recommended to download this "http://www.yousendit.com/download/2gvKwga2UTl5TA%3D%3D" from www.nod32.com
What should i do , whome i trust :(

I have been using syagte personal firewall for some time now……I used to vist sites like grc.com and hackerwatch.org to test my firewall…..when the tests were conducted my firewall(sygate) used to inform me about a port scan attack which i assume is normal…..and it managed to pass the tests…..
Now I have switched to zone alarm(free version) …….but when the tests r conducted it never informs me about the port scan attack……although the tests r being passed……….why is my new firewall not informing about the port scan attacks………

My laptop, bought through my University, came with a version of Trend Micro OfficeScan installed on it. I've just found out that the school I'll be taking a few classes at over the winter break offers McAfee. In fact, it requires McAfee be installed in order to access the internet in certain buildings on campus. Connecting wirelessly won't be a problem, but I am wondering now if maybe I should just install the new anti-virus program and not worry about possible connection problems. But before surrendering my current one, I thought it worthwhile to find out if one has the edge over the other in any ways (namely, the security of wireless connectivity is a biggie to me). Thanks for any and all input :o).

my nokia Symbian series 60 unit has been infected by this Commwarrior virus.. my phone starts sending mms messages thru Bluetooth/MMS and then sends the virus itself..

can you suggest me some ways to eliminate this? and can you give me free antivirus for this one?

When i try ti install antiviru(AVG...) icomp automatically shuts down.Also i can't run "regedit","msconfig" -it shuts down...

It all started when I opened up "my computer" and started to look through all my files.
Nothing happened at all until I did this, and then my computer wanted to install its own anti-spyware called spy sheriff.
It makes me kind of skeptical, thinking maybe this is a part of the infection itself.

What should I do, but keep in mind I really don't want to drop any money for this.

I'm not sure if this is a virus or a setting the computer can be on. Other people were using my computer today so I'm not sure if they accidently did something or if it's a virus. I have McAfee and Norton, but they're both coming up negative. The volume is going down completly so, there is no sound.

Hi i was looking at all the people answers on my questions

antivirus --- AVG free
antispyware --- Windows Defender
firewall --- Windows Firewall + Netgear Router Firewall
