you can password protect the folders on the drive, but not the whole drive itself. just do it the same way you would with folders on your hard drive. folder security options in windows, folder options in mac.

Some USB flash drives have a biometric lock - i.e., they use your fingerprint to grant access to the data stored on them.
If you don't have one of those, you could create an encrypted volume on the drive with TrueCrypt. See the link below for detailed instructions.

Here's 2 pages that claim to have the answer. They might require the purchase of some software, though.

I just Googled 'password protect flash drive'.

Some flash drives come with this facility built in, others don't. Can't tell you which, I'm afraid. Try looking at the specs ofsome on the 'net.

When your computer first boots to a black screen and says the manufacturer and a couple options to press different keys, press f8 or the key to go to safe mode. Log in as Administrator with no password. Go to control panel, user accounts, and change accounts. Change your user name and password. Write it down. Restart your computer normally and enter the user name and password.

cryptainer is a very good program to use, and there is a free 20MB version of it.
it allows you to create a hidden vault... you can unhide it and place it on ur pen drive but it remains completely encrypted until you unlock it per session. the files can be stored on it, and when the vault is unlocked it appears as an additional volume to the computer.
try it!
