Its simple. Some Windows 2000 Operating Systems comes with the customized version of the Windows Operating System which connect to certain Domains at startup. Well, then you should definitely format the Hard Drive.

You should have a Bootable Windows XP CD loaded into the CD ROM Drive and restart the computer. At startup, press the Del or the F1 Key according to your BIOS. You can see which button to press at startup.

Once in BIOS, from the Boot Drive Sequence, set the CD Rom as the First Boot Device and restart the computer after saving the changes.

Now, the computer should ask to boot from CD and then you can follow the rest of the steps accordingly.

Make Sure that the CD is a Bootable one if you still have problems

You should be able to load the XP CD. Try looking that the BIOS setting for boot order. Make sure the CD Drive is enabled for boot and ahead of the Hard Drive in line for boot order.

Once you can boot to the install CD, the password will no longer matter since you can wipe out the 2000 Pro install.

Once you are into Windows go to add/delete and delete all programs that you can that may have anything to do with the Internet. Also any application programs to clear your disk as much as possible of anything except Windows related stuff. Then try to format the hard drive. If that doesn't work try booting to the disk and see if you can't format it from there.
