Avast is very good. it will scan your computer every time you download anything. it will also stop downloading anything that has a virus on it. Also try avg free. This has a good anti virus software program,but will not scan in real time. So to recap. if you don't mind waiting a few seconds longer,for stuff to download get avast. If you do mind or have a slow computer anyway,get avg and set up a daily scan. At the end of the year your subsribsion will run out. Just uninstall the program and download it again. Hope this helps...and get an anti virus on today!

Avast is still free I believe, but I think you need to "register" every year or so to obtain a new license key.
There is also ClamWin which is open source and completely free, no registration or license key required.

try AVG free and also download the spyware scanner. Free, updated requarly and dectes viruses unlike most viruses scanners.

I hve used antivir and AVG and AVg is much better. Some people rekon its as good as norton.
