I have a DVD-rom drive. I want to know if there is a way to download anything of the net to teach it to write dvd's? I am trying to not have to buy a drive. I am just curious if drivers can be downloaded to teach it to write or not?

im about to buy to nvidia sli ready video cards and a sli ready motherboard computer also, and i was wondering where do i get the SLI chip you can see it in this picture

Please read my question thoroughly before attempting to answer :)

So, I have an external harddrive, and somehow its drive letter got switched with the CD Rom drive letter, and i have tried to change the letter but you cant change the CD rom drive letter unless theres a CD in it...
Seems simple, right? But whenever I put a CD in it uses the DVD drive. So...how do I get my computer to use the cd rom drive and not the dvd drive?

what is the reason wenever I try to open "my pictures" on my PC, why does it freeze? Even when I try to upload a picture to an email it happens, I'm sure it's corrupted in some-way but how do I fix it??

I want to replace my current primary drive (C:) with a new hard drive. I don't want to format drive C: until I have installed and set up the new hard drive. (Partly so I can look at current drive C and make sure I'm putting all the correct programs back on, as well as copying over old files to the new computer). Can I just change the jumpers on current drive C to make it a slave to the new hard drive? Will that work with Windows XP still installed on it and everything set up with C: "paths"? Is it possible to do a disk copy from current C to new C if new C is set up as a secondary? Just trying to figure out how I can do this without erasing the current C.

I recently managed to get my pc memory down to only half full, i installed a program that would only take up a small amount of memory, i then restarted my pc then looked at my memory only to find that it had filled up fully, i later uninstalled the program and restarted the pc but it didnt seem to effect the amount of memory. i have tryed everythin on the pc to lower memory but nothing has seemed to get it back down, please dont recomend defrag cuz you need 7% memory and i only have 2% aparently, thanks x

This days my computer is too slow...specially when I'm on the internet ( I made some tests for the speed of the internet and is a good speed). I don't have so many things on it...just some songs and a couple of pictures, but I don't know what is wrong with him. What can I do to make it faster?

while playing need for speed: carbon, the game just shuts down randomly. i can believe that its a performance issue: i just bought a new comp with a 3ghz pentium d dual core cpu, 1gb pc5400 ram, 200gb hdd, and a nvidia 8400 256mb gpu.
i saw somewhere in the control panel on my comp that i only have 550mb free. is the game taking more than 550mb to run, and thats why its shutting down? i do run the game settings on high detail.

i know it cant be from the cpu overheating. i have a thermaltake big typhoon (i MASSIVE cpu heatsink!) installed hat keeps it pretty cool (about 45c under load, i think).

what else could be causing the problem? i ordered another gig of ram, will that solve the problem?

I am currently running dual monitors (2) .Gateway installed card is 128MB. Can the added card exceed this or does it need to match or be lower than this ram.The second card is 16mb. on board ram and while it functions not all 3d graphics menus and options work off the added monitor.

I have an emachines t5224 pc that had onboard video. It stopped working. I bought a new video card. My 945g mobo won't recognize the new card in the pci xpress16 slot since I can't get the BIOS screen to come up and change the preferences. I've tried resetting th CMOS and can't find a jumper (there isn't one i don't think) for this purpose. Is there ANY OTHER WAY possible? I'd rather not have to buy a whole new motherboard!

Like for an example i want to test how hot my comp can get before it cant take anymore, and i want to test how fast my fans can work, and i want to test my GPU/CPU to its threshold temp. Just tests that will actually push my comp to its limits. And with the fan test i would actually like to hear my fans reving to its top speed.

I bought a 1 gig stick i used crucial to make sure it ws compatible, it is ddr pc3200, the same as my 256 stick.
If I put it in on its own it comes up with an irql not less or equal error and wont do anything.
If I put it in with my 256 sticlk then the pc loads but when I start using or downloading data it gets corrupted.
Any solutions or do I just have to buy some different ram?
