I have a computer but never had a lap and would like to get one just don't have a clue as what to get PS can't afford to expensive.$$

For your tasks (and 99.9% of notebook users) a $500 Sunday special from BestBuy or CircuitCity will do just fine.

The biggest difference between a $500 notebook and a $1,000 notebook is a slightly faster processor, which isn't going to be noticeable unless you edit raw DV (digital Video) from a camcorder or encode DVD's, and even then I don't think it's worth double the price (you might wait 10% for an encode to be finished compared to the $1,000 notebook).
