Ergo keyboard is best for heavy use to prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). If CTS gets severe and too painful, surgery is required. Had one officemate who had to undergo surgery due to CTS. Could no longer sleep due to severe pain in the wrist.

Touchscreen is nice for kids and for specific applications. It is expensive and requires too much hand movement.

When you place your hands on a standard keyboard, you must either turn your wrists to the outside or swing your elbows to align your hands with the keys. an ergonomic keyboard takes away that awkwardness and allows your hands to be in a more natural position. An ergonomic keyboard also by design, helps prevent crossing over, i.e. right hand hitting left hand keys, and again allows a more natural posture. It also discourages resting the base of your hand entirely on the bottom of the keyboard, which can contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome.
