is it worth buying a directx 10 compatible graphics card (for example the geforce 8600gt) , or is it better to spend the same amount of money on a more powerful (non directx10) graphics card, for example the geforce7900 or the ati x1950pro?

i have vista, but i prefer to use xp. what advantages would using a directx 10 card give me?

thank you

For some bizzar reason my partner copyed an entire CD with a newer version of windows XP over on to our computer instead of installing the XP from the CD. After doing this it now keeps prompting me to delete files from my C drive the hard drive is full there is no free space. It wont now let me log on to the computer only in safe mode. When i get into safe mode to delete the XP files copied over, i can not find them. when i right clicked C drive to view the hard drive it is completelly full. Please help i dont know what to do. I can not access my computer, it wont let me, it only says free up space from your C drive of which i cant get to. Should i delete every thing from the computer and start again with installing everything from new, as in windows EX? if so how do i do this. Thank you to anyone that can help me x

I bought Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II a few months ago, and it doesn't work on two of my computers..I went to technical support and for my problem, the main reason is usually a lack of RAM..Where do I get it? I know you can get it at Wal-Mart and stuff, but I don't know what kind to get, how to put it in my computer, or what kinda prices im looking at...if you can answer any/all of those questions, Id really appreciate it. Please give me any information about money in USD (American Dollars) and keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about computers. Thanks, in advance.

So basically I bought a new video card and power supply about a month ago. I actually heard a little screeching/buzzing out of the PSU before, but it went away. As of moments ago its back. I installed new video card drivers from ATIs site, and upon doinging so and restarting the computer the computer wouldn't load passed the loading screen. I couldn't see the log in screen or whatnot, and the computer and monitor just shut off.

So I boot the pc in safe mode and hear this loud screeching/buzzing in the power supply... Any ideas what this could be? The power supply is actually hooked up to the video card. There's a white coord that goes from the end of it to one of the many psu coords.

Anyways, any information on what this buzzing could be would be really appreciated, and if it's linked to my video card drivers failing.

After my primary hard drive failed on me, I decided to put the slave as the primary. However, when winxp goes to setup for installation for some reason it does not recognize my hard disk. My IDE controller picks up the hard drive just fine. It is a seagate 200gb hard drive and I noticed I had no jumper pin on the back. I tried a western digital one with no results.

Hard drives are getting so fast they are as fast or faster than RAM, there can even use RAM as a hard drive, so wouldn't it be smart to take RAM away totally and just use virtual memory, or take away virtual memory and partition off a but of the Hard Drive to be RAM. It will soon be a cheaper option than loads of separate expensive RAM chips, and will be easier to change, virtual memory will be the same speed as the RAM so why have data going from hard drive to virtual memory to RAM and then back again, when you can take out the middle man and make operating systems and programs soooo much simpler to run, taking up less energy, smaller size and way faster systems... also currently couldn't be have only a small amount of RAM and speed the PC up majorly by having a solid state or atom based hard drive as virtual memory...

Am I right or wrong.. we could also use current programs we have now, just with a different operating system handling the RAM..or virtual memory, or new partition...
