Your RAM is what matters rather than your CPU frequency. You have got only 256 MB of RAM which is too low to even run Windows XP (I guess you have XP) properly, let alone play games. Your friend must be having more RAM so he can smoothly play games, which require 800 MHz or less CPU frequency.

I used to have a Siemens PC. I was only 1ghz and had 256mb ram. This spec was fine for running windows 2000. Later on I installed windows xp to my computer and omg was it slow, i waited about 20mins for it to start up and about 15mins to load a game. It was pretty bad. Your processor is more than capable of running windows xp although your 256mb ram is far too slow. Think of the processor being the engine for your computer and the RAM the fuel. With no fuel your not going to be going anywhere. I reccommend you upgrade the ram. Buy a 256mb slot for £10 off ebay and simply plug it in. There you have it. 2ghz processor and 512mb Ram. Meeting the reccommended system requirements for XP. If this is still slow while gaming, then its your graphics card dude! Which can be quite pricy to upgrade between 50 and 100 for a basic card. Hope this helps. Kieran

RAM is too small. If you are using integrated graphics, it could be sharing 32 or 64Mb, leaving the programs w/ less than 256Mb. Increase RAM. 1Gb will do wonders to your computer. If you want better performance on games, install a good graphics card with ddr3 memory onboard.

256 MB ram is very poor you need 512 or more XP takes most of you're ram more than 98 so 256 needs upgrading to at least 512MB 1 GB is the optimal amount though it doesn't cost much and well worth the extra pennies and can be fitted by yourself just check you by the right ram though DDR etc
goto to google pack and download spyware doctor and run full scan this will also speed up pc if spyware is on it
it is also free

You need more RAM. Windows XP struggles in 256Mb. An upgrade should be relatively cheap and will make a massive difference.

256mb ram is really too low. It is cheap to upgrade the RAM, I have got 1gb and might even get two because it is so cheap and easy to install. Maybe you also need to defragment your hard drive and use CCleaner to delete any unecessary registry files and use a virus detector.

try the following de-fragment hard drive
download CCleaner its free run it to clean up your registry
scan for issues using CCleaner delete unused shortcuts and similar paths

upgrading you ram first of all to about 512mb - 1gb, Then if you use the graphics built on to you motherboard (wich could also have something to do with the lagging as the integrated gpu borrows ram and speed from the system), upgrade your graphics to at least 128mb. That should do it
