I recently managed to get my pc memory down to only half full, i installed a program that would only take up a small amount of memory, i then restarted my pc then looked at my memory only to find that it had filled up fully, i later uninstalled the program and restarted the pc but it didnt seem to effect the amount of memory. i have tryed everythin on the pc to lower memory but nothing has seemed to get it back down, please dont recomend defrag cuz you need 7% memory and i only have 2% aparently, thanks x

try start
search
all files
then sort files by size
largest first
you may see ,downloads,photos-etc where files or duplicated or even 3/4/5xs
if so delete to 1
you will probably find files you thought you had deleted.
delete them here
hope this helps

You should check the processes tab of the task manager (ctrl+alt+del). There you can see what processes are using a lot of memory. Try googling some to see what programs they belong too and consider uninstalling them or don't let them start with windows.
It also may be that you have to run a spyware check. Try Spybot - Search&Destroy for that (link below)

What would be useful to know is how much you have installed now and what operating system you are running.
I could then tell you whether you really have a problem or just too little memory.
A machine running XP Sp2 with 250mb of Ram will always be running out of memory and using a swap file.

DELETE some old files you don't need.
Uninstall any programs you don't need.
THEN install some GOOD antivirus package (I get a feeling you have no protection) try www.avast.com for a free full program that works well
RUN IT, do a FULL SCAN.
You could well have a virus filling the PC with virus loaded files when yuo don't know it.

Also get CCLEANER from www.ccleaner.com to help keep the PC cleaner

Get an external harddrive and start copying files off the c: drive to it. That will then let you defrag. Do not copy any programs, just the documents, pictures, etc to the 2nd drive.

have you checked you haven't got a virus?

also check all the files that you installed the program to, just to make sure everything is gone
