I'm thinking about buying a Dell XPS M1710 and am trying to decide on how much memory I should get. I can get either 2GB or 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ, 2 DIMM.

The 4GB is almost $3000 more... Is it worth the extra money?

I am looking for a powerful computer that can handle complex 3D graphics programs (rendering, animation.) Do I need the extra memory for this type of work? (I'm willing to shell out the money if it is something I need.)

I had 512 mb of ram, so today I bought 1 gig of ram(its compatible) anyways when I was putting both of them in, I accidently put them in backwards. After I turned it on I heard kinda like a snap and then the comp turned off. I also smelled a lil bit of smoke. Anyways I found out I had it backwards, and put it in right. Now though, my keyboard, joystick, mouse, and display is not working. My video card fan is still working, and it still has colors coming out of it, but the display doesn't work. Also I have another video output (have no vid card plugged into it) and when I plugged in my monitor to it, the display still doesn't work (usually if i do this, the display shows but they're horrible graphics) any ideas on whats going on and how to fix it??

Hello, I disconected my lacie EXTERNAL hard drive (500 gb) from my PC, and when I conect it again the PC can't read it.
That happens to me before, but I was abble to mount it in a Maccintosh.
Now, I can't read the contect even in a MAC. So I used DATA RECOVERY in order to save my files in another external hard drive.
BUT: is there any way to recober the registry or index of this hard drive so my PC (windows) can read it again? Thank you!

just swapped out a old motherboard for a slightly newr motherboard. Before I swapped I checked the amount of RAM on the new one(on RAM cards, duh) and it said like 95. So I decided I'd put the other set I had in(around 200??). When I reinstalled onto Hard Drive it told me 68Mb of RAM which is way off. So I put the other ones in and it says 95. I had to install win98 and then upgrade to xp(currently upgrading) because my xp disk is a burnt copy. The problem though is why is it reading the incorrect amount of RAM?It seems to be running fine and dandy, but worried none the less. Also will XP correct this "F" up?

I have to shut down the computer and start over. Does anyone know what would cause this? Very annoying. I am not typing on line - I use microsoft word.

Recently my computer would not boot up correctly. Every time I try to start up, when it gets to where the login screen should be, a box pops up saying lsass.exe- Bad Image. In the box it says The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\NTDSAPI.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette. Any help would be appreciated because I'm pretty lost on what I should do. I've looked at some tech computer websites for tips, but I'm not really sure what a lot of what is on the sites mean. Thanks!
