This morning when I turned on my PC I got a message telling me my HD is full. When I looked I found that it was. What can I do to get my space back? Please bare in mind that I am not to technically minded.

Thanks
Cowboy

If you don't want to get another hard drive then you have to do some cleaning!
Try this first
Click Start-->All programs-->accessories-->System tools-->
disk cleanup
Check the following:
Downloaded program files
Temp internet files
Recycle bin
Temporary files
Click OK and follow steps to finish

Very large files are video files. You should probably either delete them if you never watch them or move them to a CD or DVD if you have a burner.

Next, You need to remove programs that you have installed and no longer use. Good ones to uninstall are demos, old games, old impulse programs, programs that perform jobs that another program on your computer already does.
Click Start-->Control Panel-->Add/Remove programs-->
A list of programs installed on your computer shows up.
Search through them and click on the ones you don't want and uninstall them. This must be done one at a time.

1st do a disk clean up (Start>Accessories>System Tools>disk cleanup)

Back up all the data you wish to keep for certain onto DVD/CD and delete everything that you really don't want to keep. You would be surprised how much junk you have.

An external hard drive is a good idea or even a large internal one simply to keep data (not programmes) on. You need to do this as a full hard drive will slow your machine to a crawl and sometimes even to a halt.

Turn off system restore. It's almost never good for anything, and takes up huge amounts of hard drive space. Run disk cleanup, take out all the programs you don't use and have the disks for. Clean out all your downloaded junk you don't want anymore. Put it on CDs if you might want it again someday. Stuff like that.

You either have to buy a new, larger Hard Drive and have all your files and programs transferred from the old one to the new one.

Or you can delete files and programs you don't use anymore. If there are programs you don't use anymore go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and find that program and remove it.

CLEAN HOUSE Cowboy !!! Find all your photos, videos, & music and burn them all to cds. After you verify they are good and readable cds, then delete the stuff from your hard drive.

Run the disk cleanup, then degragment the hard drive.

Good Luck

Start, programs, accessories, sys tools, disc clean-up. See how much space you can recover, if not enough, start deleting unused files.
