glockgemini - Do you even know what you are talking about? Not all ExHd's have the same architechture, Spin RPM, or Cache.
ExHD's will last just as long as you take care of them, and Western Digital carries a good warranty, so if it does fail, then you can have it replaced.
A lot of ExHD's have a spin rate of 5400rpm's, which is slow. You need to opt for a 7200rpm, with 8mb's of cache. You also should look for one with internal power options, like the one I linked to. It has power saving options that will shut down when not in use....
