I'm having lots of problems with my computer and I want to restart the while thing, back to where i have nothing on my hard drive. I have no idea how to get rid of anything on the drive. i've reinstalled windows but it hasn't fixed the problem and everything that i had on here before is still on the hard drive. I need to know how to get rid of everything so i can start over from scratch.

I have no idea why you would want to clear your C drive, as you need it in order for your operating system to run. If you simply want to clear everything that is on it, you can put in your operating systems CD and boot to the CD. you can than tell it to format the C drive and install the operating system new.

Hey Dude,

Windex and WD40 :)

Seriously, what are you doing? Are there some super secret things you want to get rid of or are you just trying to keep someone from sniffing your old computer after you dispose of it?

You can format the drive and or you can destroy the partitions with a boot disk from http://www.bootdisk.com.

You can write all 0000 to the drive with a utility from the manufacturer of the drive.

Now, if you want to completely cross-shred the drive, you need to do it at least 7 times with a utility you need to purchase. I have used a product called Drive Washer, but there are DOZENS of them out there.

Good Luck

In that case, don't do anything above.

Simply put in the windows 2000 or windows xp disk and when it gets to the point where it asks to you use the existing partition, you want to DELETE it and recreate a new partition. You will know you are in the right area when it asks you to press "L" to confirm your action.

At this point you will need to recreate your partitions, which can be done automatically for you.

As most of the other answers said, unless you don't want ANYTHING on you hard drive this isn't a good idea. After wiping you hard drive you will have to have another OS install disk (ie. windows xp, mac os x, ubuntu). If you are aware of this and still want EVERYTHING on you hard drive gone download Derik's Boot and Nuke (free, http://dban.sourceforge.net/ [click on the floppy link]). After downloading this, copy it to a floppy. Next boot off of the floppy and follow the instructions. This will wipe your hard drive with random bits 3 to 15 times.

Stop! Don't do anything. Ask the question again in different words, and wait for answers. The way you have asked the question indicates that you don't know enough about computers yet.

Please rephrase your question.

Are you asking us for suggestions to tidy your hard drive and make it more organised?

Or are you asking us to reformat your hard drive which is a irreversible step? Reformatting your hard drive will wipe clean of your hard drive and you will not get back any data (e.g. files).

i think you have a bad sector on your HDD and its recommended to do something that is not your work(like defragmentation, formatation, change format, bios problems ...)! show your HDD to a person who can correct your problem...
