Recently my computer would not boot up correctly. Every time I try to start up, when it gets to where the login screen should be, a box pops up saying lsass.exe- Bad Image. In the box it says The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\NTDSAPI.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette. Any help would be appreciated because I'm pretty lost on what I should do. I've looked at some tech computer websites for tips, but I'm not really sure what a lot of what is on the sites mean. Thanks!

The error is actually referring to a DLL.You can unregister the DLL by using regsvr32 /u ntdsapi.dll and re-register a valid copy of the DLL using regsvr32 ntdsapi.dll. But the problem remains in getting the computer booted to a working environment.

Now to replace the file you have to (1) have a good copy of the file and (2) know what you are doing to replace the file. (3) Get the computer booted into an environment.

If you have the Windows XP CD you could try a repair.

This is one of those problems you just have to have experiance fixing, if not your best bet is to take the computer to a service shop.

The actuall file ntdsapi.dll is a set of coded libraries needed by Windows XP.

Lsass is a service that windows xp uses for correct operation.

Either you can :

1) Replace the file (pretty hard)
2) Restore windows to an earlier time.
3) This service, stop it. (causes malfunction)
4) tell me missing files and i can send you those.you just install them in windows directory.(comes with installation program, just double click it)

5) Or format and reinstall windows.(all data lost)

I can provide you the eact details of you give me your phone number or call/email me, and tell me the model number and company of your machine.

Free ofcourse, but you will need to vote my answer as the best.

Thankyou
Bye Bye

It sounds like some vital Windows files got corrupted on your harddrive. If you have Windows XP, you can use the installation disk to have Windows attempt to repair itself. Just put the CD in and follow the instructions on screen to "Repair a Windows installation." (I think that's how they phrase it.)
