The only thing I can recognize in these processors is the frequency. Are some processors needed for different applications?

AMD Turion(TM) 64 Mobile MK-36 (2.0 GHz/512KB)
AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Mobile TL-50 (1.60GHz/256KB)
AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Mobile TL-52 (1.60GHz/512KB)
AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Mobile TL-56 (1.80GHz/512KB)
AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Mobile TL-60 (2.0 GHz/512KB)

I'm not using CAD and I plan on having 4 or 5 web pages open at a time and a couple MS programs open (such as word and outlook) Does X2 mean double processors? some are 512KB...512kilobytes of what?

I'm a graphic designer (mostly web designer) and will be moving to Spain next year to work. I decided to buy a laptop because I need to work at home, as well as keep in touch with friends, play games in spare time and because I honestly can't live without a computer.

Though I've never used a Mac before (not even at job), I was thinking of buying the recently released MacBook Pro 17" when I arrive there, but then I've read about some flaws it has (annoying noises in speaker and overheting were the most common) and that dissapoints me a little bit.

I like its design, but the "flashy graphics" and so is not enough reason for me to buy it. Yet, I do like that they are Intel based (THAT is, for example, a very good reason for me to buy it)

Is a MacBook Pro 17" worth buying for me as a designer? What else do I need to connect it in a WiFi area? Or should I buy a PC laptop instead? If so, which model?

If you own one, please tell me your experience as well. Thanks to everyone in advance!

I have a iBook G4 (laptop) and I already took it apart, but didn't have adequate tools, I then (somehow) screwed up the disk drive and now I cannot put disks in. (it seems there is something blocking it, it may be a piece of metal from the protectant cover inside the computer that bent and scratches disks when I try to put them in.) I knew what I was doing, but ran out of time, so a friend had to put it back together (we had already took it almost all apart to fix the I/O Bezel.

I plan to use the Laptop for photoshop and games and cant be stuck to a desktop surface for a mouse. The thought of using a touchpad for photoshop is driving me crazy. I think that for the same price I could get a lot more out of a laptop in another brand besides IBM/Thinkpad/Lenovo.
How about any of the small boutiques?
Ideally I would like a core 2 duo, 1gb ram(upgradable), decent GPU with at least 128MB dedicated (for gaming), firewire, all the normal connectivity, bright screen, dvd rewriter, 6 pounds or under. I would really like it to come from a name i know and trust, and I would get that from IBM, but are the Lenovo's as good??? On top of that the Lenovo that I liked is $600 more than a Sony that I like, and the Sony has a better CPU (T7200 vs T2500!!!) and the Sony is lighter than the Lenovo 4.07 vs 6.22 pounds. I think that Sony is as good as a name as Lenovo, build quality might not be as sturdy..... I don't know. But $600 more for 50% heavier weight and slower proc?

I just had a new battery sent to me from Dell... it's the right one, it fits and it shows in the battery bar that it is at 38% but it's not charging. I just got it. The little icon at the bottom by the clock (on windows) shows that the computer is running on AC power... but it should (as it has in the past) be running on AC power, but also be charging the battery at the same time. I tried shutting off the computer and it still wont seem to charge. Any suggestions?? Tips?

My Inspiron 1100 has finally kicked the bucket, so I'm looking to buy a new laptop. Problem is, I really don't know too much these days about what to look for in a good computer, which is how I ended up with an Inspiron in the first place. Basically, I'm looking for something with a fast processor, a good graphics card, and lots of RAM. Now that I'm out of college, my laptop will be devoted to gaming instead of writing papers, see.;) Anybody have any suggestions? I'm not necessarily looking for something top-of-the line, just something that will let me play KoTR and Sims 2, graphics-intensive games like that, without croaking.

When looking for a new laptop, i was told by a man very much in the know to look for a Dell with a Dual Core Processor. When i went to the Dell website, all i could see was Core Duo. I did find one Dual Core, but that was quite expensive, I have e-mailed my man in the know. But haven't yet had a reply!!!

So is a Dual Core and a Core duo the same thing, or different?

160GB with 5400 rpm or

2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB SDRAM

Will I notice a big diffrence in speed if I decide to go with the 7200 rpm? Or should I got with more capacity but have the 5400 prm?

My harddrive I have is a Gateway that I bought refurbished for $100 at Computers, Etc. Everything works fine on it but it is VERY SLOW, I mean VERY S L O W! I want to buy a new harddrive or a laptop/desktop. I know nothing about brands, systems, etc. These are all foreign words to me. When I go into a store I am so lost with the saleclerk & I don't want to be taken.

I want a computer for internet access, fast performing, typing letters, homework, making cards & other projects. My son is 11 & he is starting to have to type his book reports. Our's is so slow that sometimes we go to the library to use theirs.

What type, model, brand name, do you suggest? I am looking to spend under $600 (if that's possible). I have a mouse, keyboard, monitor, printer & speakers. I just need a new harddrive or do you suggest a laptop? Please give me specifics so I can write it all down so it sounds like I have some knowledge when I am at the stores. Thanks! Any websites that I can learn from?

Whenever I move my screen back of if it gets a slightist little jar the screen will go kind of sriggly like ( kind of like changing tv channels) the second thing that is for some reason my latpop will lose time. In other words last night it was 2am and the time went back to 10pm someone said to me that it could be the battery? can someone out there that knows about gateways laptops help me out with this?

I am going to school and need a laptop. the three i am thinking of are: Sony sz 340, apple's macbook, or the alienware sentia m3450. all of them are pretty similar (besides the mac os). i will not be gaming on this system, but need one that is good for typing, surfing and watching movies and stuff. graphics is not a huge deal, but id like the battery to be descent.

I've heard that it is better to leave a desktop computer on all the time because booting it up puts a lot of stress on the machine. Should I leave my laptop on instead of constantly putting it in hibernation, standby, or turn it off? Which is better for it?

I am working on a laptop, which occasionally gives up the ghost, blues screens and displays the message 'PEN_LIST_CORRUPT'.

I am not sure whether I should retire the machine - or find out what the machine wants?

What does PEN_LIST_CORRUPT mean anyway?
