It makes perfect sense, alas your screen is dead though and needs an expensive repair job.. how old was it? laptops have fallen in price quite a bit lately and it might be cheaper to get yourself a new laptop.. do you have insurance covering your old one? not sure if they will pay out if they find out what you did but I wont tell them the truth if you don't

Its a fairly straight forward job to re-new the complete lid, but the age of the machine may not make it practical - can try asking your local laptop repair man if he has any old laptops of same model he keeps for salvage.

If you have a Dell with that full warranty thing (I forget whats it's called) then it is covered by their warranty. If not, then you get to pay for a new screen.

While you are out buying a new laptop see if they have any spare brains laying around. You would have to be a few Bytes short of a full Meg, eh. ;-)
